I voted for Jadzia only because bringing Ezri into the show during it's final season was a disservice to the character.
DS9 especially, there was so much that needed to get wrapped up, I don't think that trying to develop a new character was a good idea. I suck at episode title, but the one where she went home was just a waste of time.

I would have preferred that we see the new Dax host as a b-plot in one or two episodes, but have the host go on her merry way after that.

If they really, absolutely had to move someone up to the main cast to fill Terry Ferrell's spot (no pun intended), then either Damar or Garak would have been an excellent choice.

yeah you have a good point there. even with all the ezri episodes one season isnt enough. either they should have made another season or killed jadzia in season five...

Ezri's got her own ship--probably the most powerful in the fleet--and she's almost a second James T. Kirk in the trilogy.

This girl is invincible.

More than I can say for Jadzia....

yeah, yeah Rush. we all know you're in love

60 billion!?

Damn, I got to get reading.

yup. 60 billion isn't just your average war casualty. the dominion war was a fart in space compared to this. the destiny series are damn good books and its worth the read.

hey fellow niners

yea i love the Destiny series the best read ive had for a while.

why are we comaring the two best female charaters in the star trek series, c'on their both g8 in their own way's.

c'on people!!!!

To be honest, I didnt really like either of them, and I especially hated that Ezri got with Bashir in the end. However, I have to go with Ezri becuase she is at least more likeable than Jadzia. Also, Ezri fits into the dynamic of the show a lot better than Jadzia did, because its a show about a group of people having the face new situations. Jadzia had spent all that time learning how to accept a symbiant, so there was nothing you could really do with her.

I also found myself disliking Terry Farrell; when I hear about her asking for huge amounts of money to use her image in 'What You Leave Behind', and leaving the show because she wasnt being paid enough, I am not surprised.

I liked 'em both but Ezri was much more my type: a cute little tomboy who was somehow girlier than the statuesque beauty queen. I did have to laugh when a Jadzia-loving friend of mine called her Nermal. He had a point.

I would have liked Ezri better than I did if they didn't spend so much of season 7 introducing and developing her character, right in the middle of the Dominion war and with a bunch of plots to conclude. Of course, Terry Farrell is to blame for leaving at the end of season 6 - but that doesn't change the fact that I was a bit fed up with Ezri episodes in the first part of the season. Other posters have said that season 6 is weaker than season 7 because, after the Dominion occupation arc, it lost the momentum and started having all sorts of standalone episodes of uneven quality (or something to that effect). Well, the first part of season 7 had the same problem, and felt even worse in that regard. If Ezri had been introduced before and developed over time, I'd probably have enjoyed her character more.

I'm actually glad she did because, to the extent that you are going to bother having a symbiotic lifeform on the show, it makes sense for the symbiont to change hosts once during the series. I'm glad it worked out that way.

I don't really have a strong preference for either Jadzia or Ezri, but I do enjoy the fact that there are two versions of the "Dax" character. DS9 seemed to get lucky sometimes with how things fell into place and, in retrospect, I think Terry Farrell leaving was an example of that. It's quite fitting and really hilarious in a way that the one cast member who leaves is the one whose character has the worm in her belly, so in a sense she can only semi-leave. :)

I'm among those who have made that type of criticism of the latter part of season 6, and you're right, the same can be said of early season 7 to a certain degree, though I think there is more great material interspersed with the episodes that seem somewhat pointless.

As far as the Ezri material specifically is concerned, the character needed some development, but I think there is one episode too many. Prodigal Daughter should probably have been replaced with a more heavily O'Brien-focused episode or something of that nature. Quark could probably have used a vehicle in season 7 as well, though I would have been hesitant to recommend that given the tendency for Ferengi episodes to suck.

You know..

I never thought about that before, but I think I agree. If we had got to know her better then maybe I wouldn't mind her whinyness. They just kinda threw in the new, confused girl in the end well everything was going on and finishing up. Erzi was a badly-timed character for sure.

Well, before Ezri, Kes was the only "sweety, innocent, young at heart" female character I can think of in Trek.

So, I'll gladly add my voice to say that it was about time another one was added.

It's funny. To return to this previous topic--upon seeing "Lifesigns" (VOY), I think Denara Pel fits this mold quite nicely. :)
