Which in turn was a rip off of a crappy 70s series. ;)

Well to each his own. I never got into nuBSG or the previous Stargate series, but I'm enjoying this.

I wouldn't care if they left them in that tunnel for good. Well, Chloe's cute.

What was that spider eating down there?

I mean, for a large spider there must be a significant food source.

Daniel isn't stupid enough to use the stones. Just look at the track record of what these guys have used Earth bodies for...

Shanks showing up was nice I guess. Somewhat of a callback to when he hung out and helped out Jack.

Otherwise, the b story of being trapped in a tunnel was fairly pedestrian because we all know that they'll be fine next week or whenever.

At first I didn't want to get into Rush's past, but that wasn't quite what was happening and I really enjoyed what transpired. His subconscious and the ship were dancing an emotional waltz. It was some of the best acting, direction, and production I've seen in Stargate or anywhere. Watch it again, more closely. It's Oscar level highlights shoehorned into the Stargate format, raising the bar.

I'd love to see where they could go with Michael Shanks and Amanda Tapping after this.

Dammit, Google Chrome ate my review, take two:

-I hate dream sequences in TV/Film, but that part wasn't nearly as bad is it could've been. I was worried that all the dead wife crap would lead to some 'love is the key' nonsense.

-The cryptography started as mildly interesting but ended with the "now that we know it's genetics we can brute force this bitch" which uhh... yeah I don't buy it, I guess this is why Treknobabble says stuff like "the positronic net's neutrino pulse should be able to counter the gravometric interference so long as we reroute the EPS conduits to induce a tachyon beam through the warp coil." That's science you just can't argue with. But then again, I let BSG's season 2 LAN party slide, so I have to let SGU slide on this one.

-Carlyle is a good actor, and generally Rush is the only character whose psyche is worth learning anything about it seems.

-Dreamland Daniel Jackson is a total waste.

    -The planet stuff was stupid.

-Chloe is still annoying. The 'are we ok' stuff with Eli is lame, but hey, at least it's continuity, so I guess that makes it better than Voyager.

-The violin-fest sucked. The one contemporary song also sucked. Maybe they should just go sans music for a couple of weeks.

3/5. It feels a little generous, but it probably deserved at least a 50%, so congrats on getting rounded up SGU.

Shanks really didn't serve a purpose beyond getting people excited about the cross over. Then again, there really isn't any other way to bring people over other than the tired Earth based stone episodes, so I'll take it I guess.

The funny thing was when they were describing RSA in that lecture. It was basically the most basic textbook definition of RSA without actually stating any mathematics whatsoever. It's like they didn't try... I mean, I have to imagine the guy who told them what kind of scribbles to write on the white board could have come up with something a little more imaginative.

I dunno, I liked it. This was the first episode where I was actually able to make it all the way through without yawning or thinking about changing channels.

Ditto all the way. So few shows of any genre bring me to tears, and this episode did. Excellent, excellent stuff.

4/5 because the subplot was rather meh in comparison, and that with characters I'd enjoyed more than Rush.

Was this the first time we've actually seen any alien life other than the intelligent species trying to get onboard the Destiny?

At least Chloe's trying to make herself marginally more useful (even if she isn't particularly so). It was sort of amusing to hear her talk "like a nerd"

This is one of the things I like most about the show. That they're putting this level of effort into it.

I shouldn't have liked this episode. I hate flashbacks and Earth interludes in general. Plus this episode was pretty slow moving and Daniel Jackson was more or less wasted.

But it was a good episode none the less, and I feel that every episode since the mid-season break has been better than the first half of the season.

The acting jobs by Carlyle and whoever played his wife were superb by Stargate standards, and the whole plotline would have been tedious if not for the fact that Rush refused to get caught up in his wife dying and stayed focused on what he had to do.

The character writing was also very sharp this week, with a bunch of little tidbits that added a lot. Young laughed twice and smiled a bunch, Chloe's "Stratification" and nerd bit was good. Rush and Greer's little spat was good. Rush of course had the lion's share of everything, and it is obviously going to lead to some sort of pay-off later this season I suspect.

The alien ruins were interesting in that they were obviously made by humanoid aliens(or humans) of roughly human size.

I think his wife was played by Louise Lombard I know her from the house of Eliot but I think she was in CSI in the US.

I liked it. Nice background on Rush. Little pieces are falling into place.

Rush gets clarity on why he's such a douche and may not be quite so douche-ish in the future. After all, Young joked with him last week (that Rush missed a chance for a conversation with equals) and said that he enjoyed chess.

We learn why Rush...well, hates is kinda strong...is jealous of Eli. Eli solved the problem Rush had worked 2.5yrs on, using natural talent.

The montage at the end of last week showed the crew eating. Not mixing military and civilian so much, but relaxed and in good spirits. A lot of times, unspoken scenes can give a lot of background information that would just take too many words for good exposition. For example, a shot of the crew eating one week, definitely divided and little laughing. A few episodes later, maybe a bit of mixing and some laughter. Finally, an integrated crew with casual banter and laughter. No words required, yet it shows progress on the show.

I like that bit with Chloe, if she started to learn more about archeology stuff and became the Daniel of the show, that would be cool IMO, and make her very useful.
