Ghostbusters 3 back in development hell?

I seemed to me that things where really starting to move and that GB3 might really happen. Then I came across this:

Dan Aykroyd Tells Bill Murray to "Stop Acting Like a Jerk" in Regards to 'Ghostbusters 3'

I guess if the script is bad, then Bill Murray is actually doing us favor. But if they have a chance at making a decent film and Murray stops it from happening... Well, this is pretty much the last chance to make a GB3 movie with the original cast before they are too old, in my opinion. So I think the next few months will probably decide whether this movie happens or not.

Frankly, they're already too old.

And as talented as Bill Murray is, he's a huge Prima-Donna and he's been the lump that messed up GB2 and is messing up GB3. And -frankly- I don't want a Ghostbusters 3.

Oh he didn't want to wear the jumpsuit that much.

Oh he didn't want to wear the pack that much.

Oh he wanted a side-plot with Dana and less to do with the ghosts.

Oh he wanted this, he wanted it that, he wanted it this way he wanted it that way.

The guy is amazingly talented and funny, I give him that. But the guy strikes me as a giant prima donna and a pain in the ass. I suspect, though I could be wrong, GB2 would've been a more solid and better movie if Murray didn't get his way in so many avenues.

And him wanting to "die" and be a ghost in the third movie is... just.... dumb. I don't think a decent, worthwhile, GB3 can ever or will ever work to a satisfactory degree. I barely like GB2. I "could" see a new franchise with a new cast, etc. But I'd also like to see the movie take a more "serious" tone something closer to the "superhero" movies and less with the comedy I think that could be neat but, frankly, if GB3 works better without Murray let him go. Kill him off (either by killing the character or simply having him quit and leave) and just move on. Ray, Egon and Winston are far better characters anyway.

I posted this somewhere else before, but you just know the studio doesn't want to make an expensive Ghostbusters 3 with Murray, Ramis, Hudson and Aykroyd when they can just reboot and make a cheaper, younger, hipper Ghosbusters 1 with Michael Cera, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan and Megan Fox.

WTF? The Ghostbusters movies are comedies.

You may as well say that Die Hard V should be a romantic comedy.

Which would be awesome.

Yeah, they'd never be able to top the groundbreaking physical stunts from the 1st movie like the mild jogging and walking up stairs.

The Ghostbusters movies aren't action movies. They can basically never be too old. Hell, 70something Ghostbusters running around a haunted old people's home trying to catch ghosts with their old gear is comedy gold.

That actually does sound pretty friggin' funny! :guffaw: Somebody get Aykroyd on the phone!

Wow, I didn't realize that Bill Murray was that much of a jerk. Honestly, even if they do bring in a new director, I'll probably still be keeping an eye on this. I'm a big fan of the first ones, but I still don't really see why this is the kind of thing that would need to have same cast or director.

I don't know if you can call this being "back" in development hell when really the only work reported on Ghostbusters 3 has been the script IMO. I wonder if there was any true work on pre-production like design concepts and such or they were just really waiting until Bill gave his approval before starting things. This makes me sad...we know he wasn't high on Ghostbusters 2 so this doesn't surprise me at all. Can they even move on a reboot without Bill's say so? It seems like he was given an incredible amount of veto power on this franchise. I like the idea of a cast involved Steve Carell, Seth Rogan, Eliza Dushku (I also remember reports of Dan Ackroyd liking Allyssa Milano to join a new cast based on her character from Ghostbusters The Video Game) and Will Smith. With Harold Ramis and Ackroyd playing advisory roles.

After seeing Ackroyd's treatment of the Blues Brothers sequel, I can comfortably live without a GB3. This is especially the case if the intention is to give the original crew a minimal role and just hand the torch over to a new cast. I'm especially lacking interest if it's a CGI movie.

I question this article since it claims that Rick Moranis agreed to star in it. As far as I recall, Moranis has completely retired from acting and has not been linked to the movie.

Last I heard, the video game pretty much was GB3. I thought all the resources that would have gone into making GB3 were instead redirected towards the game.

It was shortly after the game came out with movement on the script (done first by writers from the Office and Year Zero...are they still attached?) and Ackroyd and Ramis confirmed that work was happening on 3.

What about having Venkmans death being the thing that causes the ghostbusters to retire and pass on the torch? He dies opening few mins, maybe of screen or something with the other three rushing to help, they get there too late and thus must face up to the fact theat they're too old for this sh*t. Bring in a new cast and then have the original three come in to help mid way through when the young'uns need a rescue.
Personally I like Murray but if he's that much trouble, drop him. The again as someone pointed out Ackroyd doesn't have a great track record either so I still won't hold out high hopes.

AICN mentioned Moranis' involvement way back in January.

Meh. So it's back in development hell. Sometimes it's for the best. There are only so many times that I want to see a movie that's being sold to me more on nostalgia than quality. (I'm looking at you Star Wars Prequels...)
