Can anyone remember when work started on the Millennium Dome?

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

according to this week's Doctor Who Adventures, the scenes with young Amelia take place in April 1996. the bulk of the episode in April 2008 and the final scene where she leaves in June 2010.
Is April 1996 just a random date Moffat used, or does that hold any significance? Hold on, what month in '96 did McGann's movie premiere in? :vulcan:

I forgot the month but the movie itself takes place at the end of 1999

Looks like the TARDIS travelled in time between missing Big Ben and crashing in Amy's garden then, as otherwise what were The O2 (Millennium Dome), 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin) and City Hall, all of which had not been built in 1996, doing in the background?

I don't know that we can assume that definitively. In order to create the opening flyover scene, the director could only work with the city that exists now, and was probably just hoping (like most directors) that the general audience wouldn't focus too much on the details.

Buy I guess it doesn't really matter that much either way. At some point, it did obviously travel back in time.

So after the Tonight Show debacle, Conan O'Brien really did get a series after all :)

That's weird isn't it?

Y'know what would really bite? If, a few months into Eleven's run, he's forced to DE-generate back into Ten, but much more bland than before.

And backstage, Smith has a severance package to help pay for Gillan and the supporting cast, but Tennant feigns concern...

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Since the clone of Ten exists, given the whacky nature of science and logic on DW they could easily write a regeneration story that turns Eleven back into Ten.

Yes, I know it was a Leno joke.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

So, this is your syllogism, basically:

1. "The show is stupid,"

and

2. "I found her comments un-engaging,"

Therefore,

3. "Karen Gillian must be stupid."

For the record, I'm fairly certain that's not considered a valid logical syllogism.

And if direct evidence to the contrary is presented, you immediately mock the argument by sarcastically agreeing that she must be a "fucking genius."

In what possible universe is your behavior reasonable? You don't like a TV show; fine. Why insult everything and everyone related to it?

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

Erm, I'm not. I'm just saying that based on interviews with her that I've seen/read, she seems vacuous. Doesn't mean she can't play the part well or that she's not quite good looking, but when someone posted an interview with her, silly young Bones couldn't help giving an opinion of it.

Anyway, as I've said before, I thought The Eleventh Hour was quite good for the most part.

maybe it's a fault with the NHS computer network?

maybe this is because I dont work in an NHS hospital, but im surprised it does not have the NHS logo on it, or does it cost money to use the logo, so the BBC is being cheap / getting value for licence fee payers money.

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

i thought it was good, bit overhyped but thats the bbc with a good programme for you.
just hame to see what happens now.
is it me or does amy pond annoy you already. she might have to be like martha jones and grow on you

Re: Doctor Who – The 11th Hour (5x01) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS) U

No, she doesn't annoy me a bit - I like her. Martha was barely tolerable for about two weeks and then came to annoy me enormously.

I wondered that, too, while I was watching the episode. I noticed that all the signs outside the hospital didn't really look like "usual" NHS signage, and I thought then that I hadn't seen any NHS logos. I don't watch anything like Casualty or Holby. Do those shows use the NHS logo?
