Just as a "lets see" exercise, is there any way I can convince you to push those nacelle struts back along the secondary hull about 15-20%? It really 'bugs' me in a way I can't quite define or explain that they just seem to disappear under the saucer in a lot of these shots you're posting. Otherwise I love it.
I know what you're saying. On most Trek ships it would probably bug me, too. But, for some reason I can't explain, the placement here works for me. MadMan, the model is lookin' sharp.
^ Ditto. It works for me too. And I think if you moved the struts back it would inadvertently make the vessel look bigger than she actually is. Their current location gives the design a more compact shape that, I think, really fits her size and era.
Thanks for all the comments guys. I don't want to move any major elements around... I want to keep faithful to JudeXavier's original intention. *This is totally unrelated, but I might be a few days until I got back this. I went to the ER on Thursday night with pain in my side, and it ended up being gall stones! I had surgery yesterday, and just returned home. I'll be sore a few days, but I have to be off work for 2 weeks... I should get lots of modeling done in that amount of time.
Get well soon and take full advantage of your time off to relax A friend of mine recently had gallstones, I don't envy the pain!
I've got a little quickie side project "teaser" that I'll upload in a bit. Tried a "in universe" background writeup...probably the last time I'll do that Hey, hope you feel better ASAP, Madman. Seems like gall bladder issues are getting more common these days, as I too have had friends recently having them removed.
What the heck... http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/DSCN0894MKI-MKIIIComparison.jpg Messing around in-between other things. Except for the obvious, the saucer and 2ndary hulls are the same basic lines. Seeing if a certain evolution would be believable, or just silly. Anyway, enjoy
OK, that intrigued me, so I played with a rough concept thing... http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/DSCN0894BonaventureMKIIIstudy.jpg Sorry, just lines roughed out at this point...boy that is an ugly ship! Sorry my "description" sort of ran out towards the end...ran out of ideas Anyway, back to the other WIPs..
That's a pretty good take on a trash-bin idea. I really like what you did there with the Bonaventure. --Alex
That...ain't...bad. Yeah, you're onto something there. Regarding your original design I don't think it's necessary to deviate so much from your initial concept to make it more TOS like.
That's really neat. Since most of the basic parts are the same, I might build up one of each. It's been a while since I built anything in the TOS style...
Jude, I love how you take something that makes hardly any sense (the Bonadventure class) and make it into a real beaut.
This comes up rather often, but I never seem to get it: Why exactly doesn't the Bonaventure, as seen on The Animated Series, make any sense? I actually think it's a rather neat design. However, judexavier, I like your adaptation of the ship.
Personally, not too sure about anyone else who says it, the clunky nature of the Bonaventure doesn't seem to fit too well (IMO) in TOS. Additionally, the artwork of TAS doesn't really show the ship in a good light. Hey Jude, ever consider giving the NX a retro-future look? Maybe even something WWII looking?
Well, I don't think its the way the ship looks... I think it's more that they were talking about it being the first ship with warp drive, and was lost in space for quite a few years. In that case, why would it look so much like the Enterprise? It should look totally different... Well, now that my surgery pains are down to a manageble level (I haven't taken any meds today ), I started back up on this guy. Apparently, the engineers found the "on" switch... What do ya'll think?
