So, I see he Rays@Sox game listed as "postponed" and not "suspended." Is this correct and the first game of the double-header will be a do-over? That would be nice, as Lester had the bases loaded with one out as the tarp went on the field.

Hopefully the Sox can hang in there and seal the deal on the wild card.

Ya, total do over and reset. It will be played like it never happened.

Congrats to Jeter. While I think the man is overrated, he is certainly great, and that was a big accomplishment...

What is the official rule regarding postponement vs. suspension. One inning of play completed or totally at the discretion of the umpires, managers, and MLB?

I thought that at least half of the game had to be already complete. Which is why, for example, Game 3 of the '08 series (which got rained out) was restarted at the same point that it ended - they didn't do it over. Because they'd already played like 4 and a half innings. Also when Cal Ripken was about to break Gehrig's consecutive games record, it didn't become official until sometime in the 5th inning...

Thats been the only silver lining to Detroit's slide right now. The Twins and White Sox have also been losing. It's still anyone's division though.

As I understand it, a rain delay can last for up to 48 hours. It's up to the discretion of the umpires and they usually won't do it unless it's a close game that's already official and has some kind of significance. Otherwise, it gets restarted.

Mets win today! 10-9 over the Phillies! :techman:

Nice to have Beltran back, of course. And David Wright is baseball's answer to Captain Robau. :techman:

At 5 innings the game is in the books and if it rains after that, they just end the game without completing it at a later date if the rain delay persists for more than 6 hours I believe.

Before 5 innings, it's not a complete game and therefore gets postponed/redone. I think that's the ump's call though. Unless it's some kind of play-off game.

Man, the Tigers have continued to slide. Their bullpen looks awful right now. Even on nights where the offense does come alive, the bullpen blows the game. They need a win today to avoid another series sweep.

If Wright were MLB's Robau, the ball would have been the one that needed to be hospitalized after hitting him in the head.

Though he is a great player, and my wife has the hots for him.

^ Wait. Didn't Robau's die when his heart got ripped out by One-Dimensional-Bad-Dude's bladed disco stick?

Well, the Mets are now eliminated from playoffs :( but I think we all knew that was coming. Here's hoping the old guard will be back next season and fully recovered from their injuries.

One question: The Yankees and Angels are making up a game today - one that was postponed from months ago. Why did they have to wait so long?
