^Don't give the BBC too much credit. I was up late the night he died and had BBC News 24 on in the background. They didn't talk about anything else from about 10pm to 2am when I went to bed.

Admittedly, this was largely because it was not clear what had happened and they were still trying to find out.

If anything, the entire coverage shows the impact that Michael Jackson has had on American and global culture. Can't underestimate that. This was a person of public interest that many many people loved and who represented the United States to the world (I think it was once surveyed that Michael Jackson was known by more people than any other person on the planet.) This justifies the attention. It cannot be just statesmen and the Pope who get news specials when they die. Culture is more than politics.

As for the old "Is he or isn't he a pedophile" discussion - I never believed it. If you see this man in an interview (as there were many in the generally biased "Living with MJ" docu by Martin Bashir that helped bring about the 2005 trial) you can see a person who is really a child himself. And why wouldn't he be? Jackson was unique in the way that no other person had ever had to sacrifice his childhood from age 5 to become a recording artist at the behest of a tyrannical father and gone on to become a mega-famous and very very rich star who could then afford to create for himself a private world in which he could relive that missed childhood. I'd say his was a case of arrested development where, like his self-professed inspiration Peter Pan, he didn't grow up to the kind of adult that we all are. It was a completely different life he had led that made this possible. I truly believe he never conceived of the idea that someone could read foul play into his affection for children. A very naive notion, sure, but if you don't really know about the world, having always lived in a showbiz bubble, how would you?

This is underlined by all his charity work that was headlined by heartfelt, yet kind of overly simple slogans as "Heal the World". Every now and then, Michael Jackson, I imagine, would get a glimpse of how other people live: in poverty, hunger, etc. And for someone who has never experienced remotely comparable conditions, yet knows suffering because of his own abuse as a child, to be shocked by such news and wanting to use his wealth to give something back makes a lot of sense.

People, especially those who keep insisting that Jackson must have abused children because he always had some around him, tend to judge him as an ordinary person. But he really wasn't. His mistake was not reflecting enough on how his actions might be viewed in public. Anything more I find highly unlikely. And what his daughter said at the memorial service yesterday only reinforces that. How many times have people like Martin Bashir peddled the idea that Michael Jackson also mistreated his own children? And here is this 11-year old girl who sincerely says that her dad was the best she could imagine. That didn't sound like a girl who had ever suffered in her home.

The BBC's version of CNN, if you mean their 24 hour a day news channel, is BBC News (no 24, I didn't realise they'd dropped that from the name) - at least here in the UK.

There's also BBC World News which I suspect you are referring to but, curiously, we don't get that in the UK.

While I do believe in innocent until proven guilty, one of Jackson's big problems was that, even after being accused of such a heinous crime, he seemed to take no actions to prevent himself from being put in that exact same position with the exact same allegations. If you're accused of molesting children, you stop having sleepovers with them! His actions are not that of a reasonable person but of someone with a sexual compulsion who cannot take even the most basic steps to remedy his life.

But that's one thing the regular public does get either. Michael Jackson's bedroom in NeverLand is the size of a hotel lobby, his bed is the size of the average persons living room. When kids say I slept in his bed with him, that's allot of bed to sleep in without either one ever being near each other.

The average person has no idea what it feels like to be an international celebrity.

I find it funny that both times he was accused just after two big interviews on his life and both times he had stated he had kids in his room and said it wasnt sexual. BOTH parents of the accusers are now estranged from their kids. Evan Chandler physically abused Jordan(the first accuser) This goes to show the type pf people that accused him.


Plus everyone else they questioned about Michael said nothing inapporiate took place.

I also find it funny now how Martin Bashir speaks well of Michael after he intially sparked off the last allegation that would eventually lead to MJ reclusiveness, depression and eventual, imo, death.

Remeber how Martin narrated that special in a different demeaning tone than the one he talked to Michael with. Remember how he edited the film with the close up on the kids hand clasping MJ's. All done to make him look bad. When Jackson came out with his own version of the filmed events, Bashir was kissing his ass the entire time.

Lets also bring up the fact that the children Michael was bringing to Never Land were kids living with cancer or under privilaged children. It was a place they could come and have fun to forget their ills. tHe staff to keep up Neverr Land is huge. None of them that saw him everyday never saw Michael ever do any such thing. We're talking people that change his sheets & wash his clothes. He moved out and never returned because the police & press turned all that into something dirty.

This whole orgy of MJ Obitutainment makes me somewhat nauseas, frankly, regardless of whether or not he really was a pedophile. If an alien landed on Earth this week for the first time, they would think that one of the greatest world leaders in all of history had died, not an entertainer. Hell, the coverage of Reagan's death a few years ago was just a tiny fraction of the media orgy over MJ. Like him or not, Reagan had a profound impact on world event that affected millions of people. MJ, meanwhile, wrote some good songs and made some good videos in the '80s.

Besides being amused at a congressman complaining about this, MJ was was found to be not guilty of the pedophile charges. Personal thoughts don't count in terms of the law.

I'm not even sure I believe he was ever a pedophile/child molester. Inappropriate behavior around children? Almost certainly, but I've never truly been able to accept that he actually raped children or lusted after them.

I don't know. I've never truly devoted a whole lot of thought to the matter. At best, I've always been a casual fan/appreciator of his music.

This family spoke about this recently.
They say Michael was very upset and depressed by this because many of those he came to know as friends turned their backs on him. Notice how Steven Speilberg, someone that was supposed to be one of his greatest friends hasn't uttered a word about the man's passing, didn't attend the memorial or nothing.

Reagen didn't break down color barriers nor was Reagan loved as much internationally. Micheal was ther first Black artist to be on Rolling Stone and MTV. For just someone that made songs, he also made history. He's in the Guinness Book for the largest donation to a charity. Reagen was cutting programs that helped those people living from charity.

He should be honored more than Reagan.
