Fans, what don't you like about VOY?

And then they'd have to alter the CGI model as well and redress interior sets to show it's more than just minor model alteration. Again, lots of money.

Nope. This is Star Trek, we're easy: we're a very story-centric and character-centric lot. Just a quick shot of the model to suggest scorching, and we're happy.

You can say that, but the numerous complaints of how the interior sets should ALSO be showing damaged and the like speak otherwise.

Maybe you're right; I might just be speaking for myself.

I wish they'd kept Ensign Seska on the ship, she was more interesting than some of the regulars and her continued presence could have been a source of tension and conflict.

I thought VOY was Awesome..except for some logical issues and romantic ones too and....well..Janeway drinks TOO much coffee.

^probably as in an insane amount (she started seeing coffee in nebulae ;))

You mean most people don't? ;)

This morning at 6:30 am I was out with my dogs and my neighbor started chatting me up and I started seeing coffee in the street asphalt. Of course, this doesn't mean I can't give the stuff up anytime I want to...

^wait wait wait...asphalt isn't made with coffee beans? You have some weird ideas in the states :P

I like so much but I would prefer it the show had more continuity and running plots.

It works fine as a stand alone episodic show though and I adore it. The final episode does NOT live up to it though, ugh. The final episode should've been incredibly emotional and it was just rushed rubbish.

But the logical issues, the romantic issues, and the characterization of Janeway aside, what didn't you like about Voyager?

Voyager wasn't really all that romantic... So I dunno what the heck ya'll talking about. You must have love station DS9 in mind. :p

Heck, even in DS9 most of the romance either came out of nowhere or just was the same people beating around the bush for 7 years before saying anything. Sisko was the only one with a decent romantic story.

Sisko's was not a decent romantic story, it was a boring romance story.

More recurring characters (reducing the size of the main cast by one or two if needed). Recurring characters are great. You can put them through the ringer and take all sorts of risks with them that you can't do with the full-timers. DS9, of course, demonstrated this in spades, as did BSG.

"But wait", you say, "didn't they kind of try that in seasons one and two, what with Culluh, Seska, Jonas, and such?"

Yes, they did. Two problems with their implementation, though. One was that the plot was kind of a dud. Two was that, well, OK, it is probably too much to hope that all your recurring characters be the level of Mark Alaimo, Andrew Robinson, and Louise Fletcher. But a little more than what we got on Voyager was needed.

"But wait," you say again, "this is a show about moving forward, travelling toward home (which was part of the problem in seasons one and two), so how can you do recurring characters in that?"

Well, recurring characters can simply be permanent crew members that you don't see every week. But more broadly speaking, I would have made the show a little more like the template of the seventh season episode, "Void", in which Voyager is out there forming alliances, even making a mini mobile Federation (and making a few enemies in the process). And unlike "Void", I would have had these relationships lasting beyond one episode. And that means room for recurring characters.

Recurring characters means more money, VOY was made to make up for money lost on DS9 meaning Paramount and UPN wouldn't be willing to put up the money for something like that.

Money people, money. Back in 1995 it would've cost a lot more to keep changing the CGI model of the ship as well as making new models of the ship (in real life) than it does now (which is why it's easy for BSG to do it). Same with constantly changing the uniforms and sets. BSG didn't even do that (it hardly changed or damaged the sets at all, it just uses camera and lighting techniques to make it seem like that).

VOY was made to make up for the money lost on DS9, not to spend more on something that may not have worked (serial drama).
Dammit, where were you during my debate about "the Killing Game"?:p:lol:

I do wish they could have made Chell a reacurring character. I think they really missed an chance to explore the Bolian culture. We still don't know what their obsession with plumbing is. Plus, they've always implied they're pasifists, so why would someone like Chell join the Maquis?

I didn't mind the romance in DS9. Indeed I thought they did it better than TNG where it was Picard-Crusher/Riker-Troi will they won't they for seven years! TNG did have 'Lessons' though. Damn that was a good episode!

I loved Voyager even though i admit the writing was terribly inconsistent. My feeling is that Voyager explored many deeply important social issues, much like i always thought the original series did. I loved Voyager, but there are still alot of things i would change about it. First and foremost? i would have NEVER introduced KES.

Neelix was annoying but i detested Kes.

and YES i still loved the show even WITH these two characters!

Kes was Voyager's best character.

She personified the spirit of Star Trek with her will to learn and explore, a spirit which was lost when she was deleted.

Kes was boring--she never could have hung around for 7 years. Ms. Perky Everything is New I'm So Incredibly Positive That I Can Never Have A Negative Thought just had to go. She was the most one-dimensional character on the whole show. I'm just now rewatching my dvds, and I'm through the first 2 seasons and starting the third, and darling Kes is sending me into sugar shock.
