Given her background, I could easily imagine Seven developing an infatuation for Janeway. As far as I know, Janeway was always portrayed as straight, so it wouldn't be reciprocated. Even if Janeway were interested in pursuing a relationship, I rather think she'd be too aware of the ethical issues involved. Seven could probably be classed as a vulnerable adult, and as such it would be inappropriate and immoral for a guardian figure to get too emotionally involved.
Yes, that's a very good point. In fact, I've never considered that before. However, I could see the same argument for Chakotay, however. Well, minus the gay/straight thing. Of course, when it comes to shipper fandom, the sexual preference on screen often does not apply.
I saw J/7 as a mentor/student relationship at first, but the chemistry between these two became very persuading for me with time. I too have seen such relationships becoming much more in real life I'd say I'm a Janeway shipper and I can live with many J/? pairings. So, in the later seasons I like J/7, I'm also partial to J/C in seasons 1-3, I absolutely adore J/Kashyk and J/Doctor works for me either (because of the same "mentor/student that become more" thingy).
But P'Chan, Lansor and Marika would have inflicted hell on the many people they assimilated. They are as responsible as 7 for all kinds of evils.
I don't think the mentor/student and les!Yay readings are necessarily mutually exclusive, the older-woman crush being such a common lesbian fantasy. I think I could definitely have gotten behind this pairing had the character development for both of them not been so uneven over the series. I will always have a soft spot for JetC though.
I know its not cannon but i forgot which book it was. The book was set in the future where the borg and the feds. and allies and 7 and the doctor got married. And the relationship between the two seem really convincing.
