I prefered Nemesis

I'm not specifically citing Nemesis but I'm kind of agreeing with the OP to say that up till now I've hung on every word of Trek. I watched this new film all the way through just because it was Trek. I might like the next one, when they settle in, but this one was unengrossing. Some good moments but it felt like they were just shoehorning Trek names and references into a run of the mill sci fi film (complete with heavily American accented villain). Should have been made for TV.

I still contend that if you had combined the bombing of TFF and the blow it struck to Trekdom and it's perception with TNG never getting it's act together, which it did with season three and TBOBW, it would have been in danger.

But TNG DID strongly serve to reestablish Trek.

But yeah, the Berman era did drag out too long and only in season four of Enterprise, when it was way too late, did they do a clean flush of the creative talent.

It is also useful to note that the Berman era series widely regarded as the best, DS9, did have the minimal Berman involvement.

He was not the creative guy. But for a long time, he was a solid producer who led a mostly successful era of Trek.

He just didn't know when it was time to pass it on and had it forced on him.

BTW, I'm with you, AJK, on the label Star Trek saving TNG in it's first two years. It clearly showed promise, but boy, did it have some work to do.

But work, it did.

I actually really liked Nemesis a lot but Star Trek just blows in completely away. It feels more like Star Trek than Nemesis did. Nemesis was a pale shade of Trek while the new movie is a brighter shade. ST was just more fun than STN, more full of the Trek spirit.

dune buggy didnt fit any of the star trek futuristic tech
corvette check

Are you being intentionally obtuse here? The whole POINT of the Corvette was that it's an antique, not current tech.

So are you saying that if they told you that dune buggy was an antique gift to picard from an old friend. Then it would of been better?

Yes nemesis did have a greyer look, and ST is shinnier full of lights and lens flares.

Yes ST did have more jokes and over the top comical scenes in it.

By more full of trek spirit, you mean more full of trek cliches?

then I agree with you.

go back a few pages, and you'll see that the young kirk represents young rebelling teen. Which is what this movie is targeted towards.

Picard on dune buggy is geared towards old man with midlife crisis.

The difference is young rebelling teens dont have the maturity to realize it.
And midlife crisis old man atleast can see through the blatant attempt.

Tentacle, do you/have you had any teenaged sons?

Re the cars: If they really wanted to float my boat - try the current model Ford FPV XR8 in pristine condition in the 23rd Century, and I'm in. Although I reckon, on the performance and reliability of my 2003 model seduce red 3ltr V6 Ford Escape - that'll still be running in 200 years for sure :techman:

Yes, I admit it - I love my Ford!!!! DH drives an Focus XR5 Turbo. Go the mighty blue Oval!!!
Oh no! Im a woman who likes cars!!!

I sometimes wonder what women feel when they are in the same situation.
That's why our daughter has done ju jit su.

I just got myself a Ford G6E Turbo. The thing is a rocket. I think it probably eats most V8's for breakfast :D

HEAR HEAR!!!

I preferred Nemesis too. And it seems Abrams liked it as well cos many elements from Nemesis were borrowed by the new movie such as the Romulans, Shinzon/Nero, Scimitar/Narada, desert rally, etc.

Ah, nothing like waking up to a strawman. Whee!

There were quite a few similarities between Nemesis and Star Trek I will admit. I mean what are the odds that two movies in a row the villain would be a Miner from the Romulan Empire?? Has JJ or the writers ever said if they watched Nemesis or enjoyed it?

shizon was a miner???
(well i went back in checked./.
he was a slave in the mines and not a captain of
his own ship but that is still pushing it considering more
importantly he was a clone of picard and killed the romulan senate.)

about the only thing similar other wise is a romulan with a weapon.

Yup he was a miner. Not by choice but I dont think that matters.

Star Trek has a number of flaws, no doubt. But I personally found it infinitely more entertaining than Nemesis.

Shinzon was so pasty and weak I doubt he mined anything.

I dont understand how can you doubt Shinzon was a miner? I mean They showed it in the movie and even had flashbacks to his life growing up as a miner.

He was pasty from spending his life in the mines away from sunlight. As for being weak it probably had something to do with that disease he had.
