Was it a guy movie, or a chick movie?

My wife (who is not a trekker, trekkie, or anything of that nature) loved it soo much, she has declared it her favorite movie ever.

It has something for everyone. Things get blown up for the guys and lots of young Hollywood to keep the ladies entertained.

It is an Enterprise boat load of male hotties; good lord.

P.S. I remember a chick on an MTV clip mentioning that, too. So it's not just us.

mostly a guy movie 'cos of the 1) car chase, 2) planets and things blowing up, 3) all the goose-bump inducing shots of the Enterprise and whatnot, 4) gross-me out factor of the ceti... uhh, centaurean eels and waterboarding 5) Uhura and Gaila etc...

but it's also a chick movie 'cos of the 1) hot hunks all over the place, 2) the 'ship factor (as someone said upthread) nicely done between Spock and Uhura, and the sheer emotional impact.

I know I'm like a guy and a girl all packaged in one (a lot of us Trekkie women are, IMO) and I love ALL of the above.

all my chick-friends love it (non-Trekkies) and even some of the non-Trekkie guys do, as well.

Yep - for me it's items 2 and 3 of your first list and items 1 and 3 (emotional impact) of your second.

Yeah same here. I think it's got something for everyone.

I'm girl, and I loved it. But then again, I was raised on science fiction and action flicks, so this is the type of movie I'd like (plus the added bonus of just about every guy in it being hot! ;) ). My mother loved it, and she's been a Trek fan since '66.

Also when we went to see it yesterday, my mother and I were behind three teenage girls who seemed pretty enthused about the movie. I'd say a good chunk of the audience yesterday was female. It probably does appeal more to guys, but I don't think they're the sole demographic.
