Why No Love For Zoe?

The problem with Uhura is that her skills aren't action-oriented, so any scenes where her skills are key are the ones where she says "yes, it was Romulans". The character is pivotal to the story they would never have known about the trap without her - her ability to figure out Kirk is saying "Romulan" through his swollen tongue in particular ;)

I love this version of Uhura. I could definitely see her taking command if needed.

She's hot. She did a decent job.

The only thing I cringed at was her awful line reading of "I hope you know what you're doing" as she stands over Pine in the chair. That was bad.

She's a philly! My girlfriend was against going to see this movie with me because of my adoration for Zoe Saldana.

She did a good job with the material she had. Moreover, I was glad to finally see Uhura be the female lead of a Star Trek movie, rather than play second fiddle to the "guest" character.

I thought she was great, too, and didn't mind that she wasn't Original Recipe Uhura. I think she successfully claimed the character for herself.

The one line of hers that made me cringe was "oral sensitivity".
 Ew ... TMI. But that was the scripting, not her acting.

I actually did not like her portrayal of Uhura. Something just seemed off. Probably one of the reasons is that she didn't come across as intelligent to me.

My only problem with the character (not Zoe; she was just doing what Abrams wanted her to do) is that she was so intelligent. That was never the case with Uhuru in the original series, and she certainly wasn't a master of alien languages. We saw this clearly in one of the movies when she tried to talk to some Klingons, and not only had to get tons of archaic books out for whatever bizarre reason, but she butchered the translations on top of that.

There's nothing wrong with a woman being intelligent, obviously, but considering how hard they tried to make the other characters at least somewhat similar to the originals, they really botched it with Uhuru. Just as there's nothing wrong with a woman being a supra-genius, there's nothing wrong with one being a normal, regular person either. And that's what Uhuru always was.

Come on, one of the best things in the movie is Zoe Saldana. She is hot and a great actress. She was great in The Terminal. She was fabulous in Guess Who. And she was fantastic as Uhura.

Damn it, she should be one of the big stars in Hollywood.

Ummm no. What Kool-Aid are you drinking?

She's servicably attractive, yes. I wouldn't say "Hot." There were scenes where the lines in her face made her look 40. And they did nothing to make her look like Uhura.

She hardly struck me as Uhura-like (all of the actors seemed mostly like the characters they were playing, Zoe didn't act like Uhura at all).

And she's a "good" actress but not good enough to be "one of the big stars in Hollywood."

That's why there's no love for her. She didn't stand out in any meaningful way beyond peeling off her tunic.

She's sexy, what's the definition of Sexy? If you look at somoene and one tro have sex with them.. They are Sexy.. Zoe is Sexy.

BTW what did NN do other than being black, sing a few songs and kiss Kirk, and she had 79 episodes to stand out. I'm sorry some peoples gripes are just ridculous. (And I'm calling the gripe rediculous not the poster)

You know, I was wondering if she meant Oral or Aural?

I really liked Saldana's version although I still have a lot of love for Nichols.

^ ^ Yeah, that's right. I remember that now. He said he watched it every Saturday morning.
