Uhura vs new Uhura

Ummmm, with all due respects to Nichelle, I think this new Uhura is very sexy indeed. A product of her time, for sure. Slinky and sexy. But I have seen several pictures of her on the web now and...well...I like!!!

I will...and you can keep NEMESIS. We'll see who is sitting pretty in about three weeks...

I hate to be the guy to point this out, but neither of you are getting the ladies so.... chill

you say this as you are drooling over your avatar...gotcha!!!

Rob

I maybe admiring the beauty but I'm not fighting with other posters about which Uhura is the best like I'm 10 or like she's my girlfriend or something.
Big difference there.

"Oooh, my Uhura is better, you can keep your stinking Uhura and you stupid Nemesis"

I actually have something to say on this subject that isn't just about looks. What I love most about the casting of Uhura is that Zoe Saldana played a trekkie in Steven Spielberg's "The Terminal". Another airport employee has a crush on her and eventually wins her over by exploiting her trekkie-ness in order to charm her. As a Star Trek fan, it was my favourite part of the movie. I actually cheered when she did the Vulcan gesture (to tell the guy that she accepts him - awww...it's a Star Trek nerd's dream come true! :p). It's too bad my non-Trekkie parents couldn't share the joy of that moment with me. :( I wonder if this had anything to do with her being cast for the movie (or if that role in "The Terminal" reflects her real personality at all). It would be neat is she wasn't just cast because she's attractive and kinda sorta bears a resemblence to Nichelle.

She does have a greater role in the movie, than TOS Uhura might have, but, IMO, the type of looks and acting styles of the 1960's and 2000's are too different.

I just find Nichelle more exotic than Zoe. Which makes Nichelle seem more 'real' playing an african woman.

Plus Nichelle just has a smoother sounding voice.

Not I. I'll bet there isn't a single reference to her African origin.

...as opposed to the numerous on-screen references from the original series and films.

Actually, I can name several off the top of my head.

The Man Trap

The Changeling

Spectre of the Gun

Probably Tholian Web, too, in the props in her room.

Also Naked Time and Is there in truth no beauty in Sulu and Spock's comments.

I think that qualifies as numerous.

Anyway, I just saw Zoe Saldana on the Jimmy Kimmel show, and while she seems a fun, vivacious person, and there's no denying she has a pretty face and was awfully cute in Pirates of the Carribean, she is WAAAAY skinny. *Her* nickname shoud have been "Bones".

Nichelle was hot, womanly, and well curved. If we're just talking looks, I give the win to the original.

She's very attractive, but her neck, my God, her neck is so freakin' long.

Nichols didn't get to choose her uniform. I am sure she would have chosen something less degrading.

Bullshit. Nichols was one of the women who explicitly chose that uniform. She was a dancer, remember, and liked showing off her legs.

I thought Uhura in the new movie was defintely like Season 1 and her personality was similiar to ST3.

Saldana's at least the actor Nichols is, and that's being very fair to Nichols.

Having seen the movie twice now, you can keep Nichols. Thanks.

I don't recall any specific references to her having been born (or having lived) in Africa. The ability to speak Swahili is hardly conclusive... esp. considering her role as the communications officer. Neither is the possession of African artifacts.

Feel free to correct me if I've forgotten something.
