Those holo-communicators have been a SF obsession for a while. I guess it kinda makes sense, given the level of technology- we have Skype with video etc. But you should maybe see a console or something they're not doing stuff that makes no sense?

I thought episode with the baby changeling was cute... I wonder if that's all it was... a found baby changeling... or if there was more to it...

The holo image communicator was really lame. Did they not want to build sets for Eddington to be on?

This idea was something Ron Moore and Ira Behr wanted to do for some time because they thought that viewscreen scenes were "dramatic death". Due to the large number of viewscreen scenes in this episode, and a desire to make the conflict between Sisko and Eddington personal, they decided to try it out. It didn't work out so well and it was only shown once more before being unceremoniously abandoned.

Enjoy the next two episodes, they were the ones that solidified DS9 as my favourite Star Trek.

Great episode with a thrilling finally. Sisko really surprised me with his actions, I thought the torpedoes were going to be inactive or something. He actually poisoned the planet.

Personally...I don't know how Sisko didn't get court-martialed for that. I know he gave them a warning, but phoning in a warning doesn't stop organizations like the IRA or ETA from getting in trouble when they bomb something!

I personally liked the holo-communicator and think it's rather unfortunate that the idea was abandoned. I thought it gave that episode's scenes between Sisko and Eddington a lot more intensity than they would've had as viewscreen conversations. It gave the two actors a chance to confront each other in a way that appears to be face to face, even though they were supposedly on different ships. It also made possible that hilariously cool moment where Sisko yells "TURN THIS THING OFF!" before he orders the planet to be massacred.

Well I watched both of these episodes last week sometime but I forgot to post. The episodes are no longer fresh in my mind but they were pretty awesome. My personal highlight was Worf fighting the Jem'Hadar in those arena matches. Them getting beamed out at the end was just as cool, kinda reminded me of Star Trek VI. I was surprised that the battle didn't go down at the station. I was fully expecting the first shots to be fired in the Dominion War.

I was impressed with Ikat'ika, showed something I'd had a feeling about all along. RIP.

"In Purgatory's shadow" and "By Inferno's Light" are two of my favorite episodes of DS9. The titles are beautiful, the characterization of Martok, Tain, Garak and Dukat where simply marvelous. The whole direction of DS9 changed after those episodes and for the better in my opinion.

Blow up Dukat's ship Marie1? But Dukat still had a lot of mileage left in him and it would have meant the death of Damar.

And I agree with you about Ikat'ika, he joins the list of great Jem'har who became more than mere slaves to the shapeshifters. They should have snapped the Vorta's neck for that, like Worf did to Weyoun!

"A Simple Investigation"

"Odo has an affair with a woman connected to a crime ring, who has been threatened with murder for her attempts to break free of her criminal past and reclaim her life from before her involvement."

An apt title for such a simple episode. However it was a good tale of heartache, better than some of the Dax stories.

I've had just about enough of your unprovoked Dax bashing, young man! Okay, "Meridian" was a pile of crap, but I haven't seen a more heart-wrenching and emotionally devastating love story on DS9 than "Re-Joined". I have to admit that "A Simple Investigation" deserves a lot of praise, though. I can't stand the character of Odo, and yet I couldn't help but feel bad for him in this one. That's how well-written and well-acted it was. The same goes for "Crossfire".

"Business as Usual"

"Quark takes a job running munitions for an arms dealer, but when he realizes that the man is supporting a holocaust, his conscience begins to bother him. He fears that he will be killed before he can get out and stop the slaughter."

Great moral dilemma for Quark. Of course he decided the right thing but his solution was unique. Stopped a genocide with one mans life, seems worth it to me. O'Brien's story was a fun little diversion that didn't take up too much time.

"The Cardassian who once thought Kira was his long-lost daughter comes to the station wishing to impart information to her, but caring for him reminds Kira too painfully of the death of her own father, whom she avoided while she was fighting in the Resistance."

Touching episode. Hopefully some useful information comes out of this.

^Wasn't that great? Kira we think has put aside her... "racism" -but then we doubt... but then we just find out she can't handle people she loves dying, is afraid of being near them.
I think maybe Bashir should have been a bit harder on her, after all- what was she thinking, going along with Dukat's morbid little scheme, and causing Marritza that pain. Even if she came around in the end... she should have known better!

Loved the comedy between Weyoun, Sisko and Dukat! "How delightful!"

This episode just made me BAWL. By the end, I had no chance--I was crying, big time.

(Though in the scene where Kira was pitching her nasty little tantrum, I just about wanted to throw something!)

Seriously, if I had been one of them, I would've told her flat-out: either get your act together and do the right thing, or it'll be professional-relationship-ONLY for the rest of the time on the station together because she would have killed every last shred of respect I had. You just do NOT do that to someone on their deathbed. Especially not at DUKAT'S behest. PERIOD.

Loved the comedy between Weyoun, Sisko and Dukat! "How delightful!"

Yeah, that was the best part of the episode. In fact, I didn't really like the rest of it. Weyoun's scenes were the only parts I really loved. One of the best examples of how the character (and Jeffrey Combs) automatically elevates every episode he's in. The rest was just like standard medical room drama.

You just do NOT do that to someone on their deathbed. Especially not at DUKAT'S behest. PERIOD.

Boy was Kira quick to jump down his throat for one "mistake." I expected more from her, I guess her moral fiber is still above everyone else.
