:guffaw:

You are a bad man.

Nice. But I don't think that cut would've worked with general audiences in the theater.

Can you explain how you think it wouldn't have worked? Even non-fans know the Vulcan salute and the "Live Long and Prosper" line, so it's not like people wouldn't realize what movie it was. And, if you're thinking that general audiences would make fun of the trailer because of that line, I'm sorry to say that I heard some of that at one showing I was at, even without that added shot, so I don't think it would've made all that much difference.

What was the point of holding the Nimoy scene out of the initial release? I figured having some kind of shot with him in it would have been mandatory for any trailer. Having him in the film is kind of a big deal after all.

What you really come up with is that it was a poorly conceived trailer. The first third is wasted on young Anakin Kirk trashing a 'Vette. Who cares? So he's a bad boy. I'm not spending $10 on that. Then it's fast cut after fast cut, over pounding music, making the movie look like any old sci-fi action film. And no Nimoy.

I hope JJ Abrams does a better job of editing the movie.

Here is the unaltered cap:

And also a trekbbs size (under 140 px) avatar if someone wants to use it:

Poorly conceived? It's been all over the media, and everyone (not counting a few whiny nerds) is talking about it how cool it looks!

Looks to me like Abrams did a DAMN good job putting it together.

Because they are trying to attract a whole new generation. If people who don't like Star Trek watched the first trailer, they'd go "Damn, sweet action flick" but if nimoy appeared they'd all groan and see Old Star Trek and roll their eyes.

THis Spock cameo was for the fans.

I agree. Everyone i have shown thought it was good.

I think it says much for the producers that they made this cut FOR THE FANS, in addition to the general audience cut.
I agree with this assessment.
Nimoy was deliberately held out of the trailer "for the commoners" and was saved for use in this trailer "for the fans".

Maybe this is a sign of things to come. Maybe they'll make two entirely different films - one for general audiences and one for the fans. Thats why they pushed the release date back. They saw the outrage on this board, and knew they had to do something! I can almost see Movietickets.com now...

Star Trek: Normally Socialized Audience Edition

Very cool image of Spock and I think he looks fine to be honest. I wonder where he is to be honest. He's wearing some very cosey clothing by the looks of it so must be somewhere quite cold.

Can anyone who was present at the preview clip showings confirm whether this is taken from the Spock scene shown, or is this from another scene altogether?

Anthony at trekmovie.com say's it is, this is where Spock leaves Kirk before Kirk and Scotty get back to the Enterprise from the ice planet.

Damn. I'm really hoping Nimoy's role in the movie is bigger than just a few scenes. At the moment, it really sounds to me like he's really just making a cameo appearance.
