I think a lot of times it comes down to the script. The Martian was great but as Project Hail Mary shows, the combination of Weir and Goddard counts for a lot.

The guy seems to get really jealous when someone else does a good Alien movie or has a good idea for an Alien movie. He did the same thing to Neill Blomkamp.

Honestly, why should Scott be any different?

My issue is that he doesn't give a damn about the franchise until it becomes popular again with a new movie release or people getting excited about a potential new movie. Then he is back wanting a piece of that pie pushing others off the bench with "i was here first!"

And I don't understand why? If anything I could totally have seen him getting pissed off in 1986 by what Cameron did, but either he didn't care back then, or didn't feel he had the power to do much about it.

Because unlike Lucas and Roddenberry, Ridley didn't originate Alien. He signed on to direct a project that already existed.

That's not to say he can't throw his (ever more undeserved) weight around. Just saying why it seems pushier somehow.

Ok - I could see that. He did seem checked-out for a while after he made the first one.

Eh... whattaya gonna do. Even if he has been a deadbeat dad for decades, it's still his baby (a big chunk of it anyway).

But he was done (again) after Covenant. If he was really going to make a sequel and complete the Prometheus trilogy he started 14 years then why didn't he step in and do his thing instead of Alien Romulus? He's just a deadbeat Dad that shows up when he needs some cash.
