Alien, Predator, AvP (news)

Ridley Scott is developing a sequel to Covenant.

"Scott says it will pick up with David (Michael Fassbender) creating a 'brave new world for himself.' Scott is fascinated by the character, a malfunctioning AI."

I liked Covenant a lot, so I'm curious where Scott wants to take David's story.
I'm another big fan of Prometheus and Covenant, and look forward to a sequel to them, but IGN warned in their article that Scott has a whole list of other movies he's going to make, including a new Treasure Island and a Bee Gees movie, so who knows how long it will actually be before this actually comes out.

While those movies were not good I was still interested in where David's story was going. I hope they complete it without any announcement of "this is the start of a whole new trilogy" which Ridley is prone to do.

There are mods that change the config files to give you unlimited overpowered revolver ammo, or let the alien or synths ignore you. That way you can enjoy the atmosphere, designs, story, with muss less frustration ;)

Lol, my PC can just about manage to run Pacman. Alien Isolation? I think the installer alone would laugh at me. The only gaming I can do is on console, which cannot be modded (for the vast majority of games). I wish cheat codes were still a thing. Or the nearest modern equivelant, accessibility options that do the same thing as cheat codes (which they patched into games like Control, Evil Within 2, Psychonauts 2).

One of the many reasons I'm sad console gaming is going full digital crap. I'd happily switch to PC gaming if I had a machine that could run anything. I do think it is funny (sad funny) that every time I mention gaming troubles I have, someone here suggests mods. Not everyone has a gaming PC, guys! I wish I did, I do! I'd give years of my life for a steam deck :sigh:

So does this mean that he’s merging the Prometheus/Covenant and Romulus storylines? That’s kind of what I gathered the takeaway was with all that.
While I don't know what sort of story Ridley Scott is thinking about here, this intrigues me conceptually.

One of the things that really appealed to me about Covenant is that is started out as one thing... and then it turned into a Prometheus sequel. A large part of the first two acts of Covenant felt to me like a Star Trek story -- a strange new world, a landing party, an ancient civilization -- and then everything goes wrong.

If Ridley is thinking about a similar structure -- a Romulus sequel that suddenly explodes into a Covenant sequel with David and maybe the Engineers -- that would intrigue me. And I think that would even be true to the story Scott started in Prometheus, which had a first act that took all of the good ideas from the first AVP, and then went in a really different direction.

The guy seems to get really jealous when someone else does a good Alien movie or has a good idea for an Alien movie. He did the same thing to Neill Blomkamp.

Well, in fairness, he did start it all. All the founders of major franchises, Roddenberry, Lucas, Larson, etc. had runaway egos and major ownership issues if someone new came along and started stepping on their toes. Don’t ever mention the name “Mara jade” in Lucas’ presence, for example. He will go absolutely batshit crazy. Honestly, why should Scott be any different?

Scott has directed some of my favorite movies, but his idea that he alone can create good Alien movies is getting tiresome. Even as a fan of Prometheus and Covenant, his comments on Romulus being just 'ok' are insulting.

It's that weird thing. Ridley made my favourite Alien film, he also made two of my least favourite Alien films!

Also I don't see why he has any more claim to the franchise than people like Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett or even Giger.

I think what we do have to factor into this is that, whilst he shows no indication of slowing down, Scott will be 89 in a few months. Sure Clint was still directing into his mid 90s but you do have to wonder how many more films Ridley has in him.

I also don't see why we couldn't have had a sequel to Romulus and a third David film.

I love a bunch of Ridley's films. They're all from over twenty years ago though.

(That's not to say I haven't liked some since then. I have, but not many.)
