You know how the sw*stika was long a symbol of divinity and spiritualism, and in some traditions still is, but generally now represents something much different and evil in the West?

But it's not necessary. The original concept was for a show set during the present-day. Certainly, Roddenberry didn't conceive of it as a period piece, back in the sixties.
I find that to be over correction. Isis is not ISIS.
I dunno, might be fun to have it take place over the past 60 years starting with the 60's and work real world events into it. Recontextualizing them with Trek backdrops. Maybe show histories as they "really would have gone" if not for our heroes doing their thing. If they really want to swing for the fences, maybe show some things we don't like about today as a result of failures and/or complications of their missions.
I'm seeing 7 seasons and 182 episodes to get us into modern day and ultimately five movies to push us into futures unknown...maybe some addressing world events in real time, as they're released in the decade+ after the series finale.

Nah, not me. At least not first run. I’d probably binge them. Or that’s what I’d do if not for the weekly Trek zoom in another thread. It's fun talking with other Trek fans even if it’s not about something I’m in love with, and hearing everyone’s different opinions.
What I’d really love is an entirely new crew on an entirely new ship with entirely new aliens, probably sometime in the 25 the century. Basically, what TNG did after TOS. Push us into the future, but not so far where it’s basically pure fantasy à la the 32nd century. We can have older species in there of course, but either as background or in a new context (Klingons as friends vs the enemies they were), or expanding on ones we’ve only seen in the background and that you could go far with.
Most importantly, give me a vision of the future that feels as absolutely real as you can make it, and that is one I'd want to visit and dream about. Who tf wants to live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland? That’s swell in a one-off movie or book or what have you, but Trek is sci-fi’s “flagship” aspirational property: let’s fly.

Thanks! For what it's worth, Seven, Isis, and Roberta are major characters in my Eugenics Wars novels as well.
And they have also appeared in books and comics by the likes Dayton Ward, Howard Weinstein, John Byrne, and others.
Over the years, they've kept quite busy in the books and the comics, if not onscreen.
Although Gary Seven was finally mentioned onscreen during Season 2 of PICARD, for the first time since the original episode aired!

What's interesting is that a story started in Issue #3, is concluded 300 years later in John Byrne's next mini-series "Leonard McCoy: Frontier Doctor" Issue #3.
Gary Seven also appeared in John Byrne's "New Visions" mini-series concluding another dangling plot thread from his "Assignment: Earth" series.

I agree. This is why I was hoping that Legacy would happen. I've been waiting for an Enterprise based series that would take place post Voyager and Picard S3 is the closest we got.
Dear lord YES!!!!!! That is so essential to the franchise and its amazing to me how this often gets missed. If I want post apocalyptic wasteland I'd watch the Walking Dead or Mad Max.
That train left the station with transporters, warp drive, ESP, cross-species mating and a slew of other stuff that Trek has ran with over the decades.
