Decanonization Time!

If they brought up canon while pointing and laughing, that could explain why they were the unpopular kids.

I would decanonize Discovery. Strange New Worlds would explicitly be set in an alternate reality of Trek.

I would decanonize Lower Decks, Star Trek Picard. Basically everything released after Star Trek Enterprise except Strange New Worlds.

"Happy talk, keep talking happy talk, talk about things you'd like to do. You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true." It won't come true, though.

Backrooms and Obsession were independent films, not Hollywood productions.

Backrooms was a joint production between A24, Chernin Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and 21 Laps Entertainment, that was undertaken after the original independently made webseries went viral. Given the titles produced by these companies, examples of which include Ex Machina, Civil War, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Mortal Kombat (2021), Deadpool & Wolverine, I'd like to see the dots connected for how all of these production companies are outside of the Hollywood mainstream. (Maybe I'll learn something.)

I don't understand what you are saying.

It was a frivolous musical response to the post where you said you want to decanonize a lot of stuff, quoting the song "Happy Talk" from the musical South Pacific. I quoted a song lyric about having dreams. I said the dream of decanonizing won't come true.

As much as I would enjoy seeing most of the kurtzman era wiped from existence, it wouldnt be fair to those who enjoy it.

But they'd never know it was wiped. In fact there may have been a hit show after Enterprise that was removed from our timeline so we don't remember it.

Indeed. It's insane how people can literally get upset because of a difference in appearance of a made up alien species. And not just that.... Spend hours debating it online, or back in the, fanzines. Not for fun, but for real. As in, they consider it AS important or more than real life political and social issues.
That's fandom. You are also likely attracting a higher than normal share of neural divergence in the mix too.

I'd rather people debate pointless stuff than the contact toxic zero-game civil war that the US is exporting around the world. I mean they argue about the fucking shape of the earth and what phone they have in their pocket, for crying out loud.

Give me harmless debates about makeup any day. Just be polite.

Now on to topic...
  • Pot jokes in Picard - gone.
  • Vedek Bareil - I've seen wood with more charisma, gone!
  • Taking Wesley down to a sex planet - gone!
  • People talking about Ensign Kim's rank for fuck sake GONE! (Mage, you may have a point.)
  • The screaming in Lower Decks - GONE (I'd like to watch it, I really would, I just can't...)
  • Giving Quark breasts then a mastectomy for giggles - GONE.
  • "Fury" - gone. I hated the episode at the time and now given they knew Lien's state and knew what "Warlord" did to her it just makes the whole episode scream of lack of safeguarding.

This. Because one day it's something I don't like, the next it's something I do like.

Different timelines is the way to go. "It happened, just somewhere else!"

Ah. So, what are you going to do when the canonical continuity says, nope, those things happened in the same timeline, not different ones?!

I go by what I see. "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" says Khan was a kid in the 2020s Canada, and "Space Seed" says he was an adult in the 1990s and on the other side of the world.

Cue someone who says, "Yeah but... "

I attribute changes to the mid-23rd Century to the result of Temporal War shenanigans.

Cue someone who says, "Yeah but... "

To do otherwise is akin to ignoring what evidenence tells me in favor of "but it's been decreed by the state that..." In the 19th Century, when Darwin theorized that evolution happened based on the evidence, he was met with resistance from people said, "But the Church says..." which was the equalivalent of saying "But the authority from above says... "

I go by evidence, not by "the word of God" or "the word of Gene" or "the word of the authorities" or someone who says "it's right even though it's proven wrong".

This is the point where arguing about Canon becomes the same as arguing about Religion or Science vs. Religion.

Which means that I place DSC (which I like), SNW (which I don't like), and SFA (which lost me) in the same Timeline.

It also means I place ENT (which I don't like) and TOS through VOY (which I do like) in the same Timeline. As well as PIC since it's supposed to be a continuation of those shows.

And the Kelvin Films in a third timeline.

"What about the animated series?" Don't know, don't care. Whatever works.

The number of timelines can be broken down even further without a doubt (much further in fact) but, to keep things simple, I'll stick with the basic three.

Cue the people who disagree with me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've heard it all before. To those people: you're not changing my mind, I'm not changing yours, so let's not get into this and pretend we did. Thanks! Very much appreciated.

different timelines are sooooooooo non-canonical

That last post of mine was heavier than intended. So, anyway, just for the Hell of it...

Yeah. Let's de-canonize "Let He Who Is Without Sin". It's the only episode during the Re-Watch, so far, where I decided part-way through "Fuck this! I'm turning it off! I give it a 0 out of 10!"

He’s saying your dream of erasing the Trek you dislike is never going to happen. (At least that’s how it reads to me).

Edit: ninja’d

The OP made a topic about decanonization, asking about what things people would want to decanonize. I gave my opinion on what I wanted decanonized. I don't know what else people were expecting, naturally people are going to say that they want certain things decanonized in the thread discussing decanonization.
