Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

And yet, has turned out to be the Spock and Christine and Pike and Batel and M'Benga and Uhura and Ortegas...
...and Scotty...
...and Kirk series.

Don't feel bad. The original Star Trek was supposed to be a starring vehicle for whoever played The Captain.

I don't need to see Pike tortured and mutilated to bring closure to anything. I heard all about it sixty years ago on TOS, and saw it happen years ago on STD. And I know how it ends up, years after that.

But I haven't seen Kirk and Spock and - oh, yeah - McCoy's first days aboard the Enterprise. So yeah, let's do that.

(I've come to appreciate dramatic irony more consciously as a storytelling technique recently. SNW is drenched with it. Pike's spending his life dreading a death that will not be as he believes it certainly will be, and we all know it.)

The only way I would have any interest in seeing Pike's injury revisited on Strange New Worlds would be if they jumped ahead to the events of The Menagerie and told that story from the perspective of Pike's former crew, all playing their own parts in Spock's plan to return Pike to Talos. Uhura's part is already a lock. Kirk said he had no idea about what happened to Pike despite it being all over the subspace chatter.

I liked how they treated it in the one episode, where it's traveling through Pike's alternate future. He's sitting there, just waiting to go on the inspection of the Class J ship, knowing that it must be THE moment.

You could feel that apprehension, that feeling of more than a premonition. Certainty that he's about to live the moment he saw.

Although it was altered and he came home uninjured, the lead up was very nicely done.

And I agree: we don't need to see it happen in SNW. It was shown in DSC (and done incredibly well), with the continuation in "The Menagerie". No need to go there again. But I am curious to see how the transfer of command is handled, from the perspective of Pike knowing it may not be long after that.

Love the new trailer! Once again, this looks like a lot of fun. Wouldn‘t mind to have a little less Kirk and a little more Pike, but I‘m still looking forward to how it all plays out. I wonder how and why the Gorn will show up again, and I‘m glad to see April back on the show. Bring on the new season!

I believe I've heard somebody say in an interview somewhere that the Gorn storyline had been wrapped up. Which makes sense, as they wrapped up all their storylines when they were unsure if they were going to get season 4.
