How big was the Enterprise?

  • Thread starter Admiral Jean-Luc Picard

Right, but wouldn't have been visible in the original broadcast, as blssdwlf pointed out:
Don't buy that argument because of the many reasons that @DSG2k presented at the time blssdwlf said that. Plus we did see reproductions of those diagrams in the BTS work of the day, The Making of Star Trek, published when the show was still on the air. The 1960s equivalent of posting screencaps today.

No.

The 1960s equivalent of posting screen caps was posting screen caps, in the form of photographs, sourced from film frames.

As you say, these are reproductions of the diagrams, not even photographs of what was used to project the schematics on-set, meant to show us what those looked like; they've been through a process to make them suitable for rendering as black-and-white schematics in the book.

Sixty foot in diameter (forward) nacelles...

Face slap. From her.

Franz Joseph had them at 17.3 meters in diameter (forward) which is about a meter less than 60 feet.

Explanation: assume that the PB-30, PB- 31, and the PB- 32 were all at sixty feet, but improvements dropped down to 17.3 meters in diameter...

Dr. McCoy most likely had something do do with that...

The SNW Entperise is too small as well. It's should be at least 1800 feet. They literally doubled the size of everything we see on TOS. (I'm not even including the ridiculous turbolift interior) The lower hull is even short in relation to its new scale. So if the TOS measurement is wrong to everyone the SNW is even worse imo.

It's fine, there's just fewer rooms in there now. The bridge takes up the entire dome structure that used to have three decks.
Well they have a big bar the size of Ten Forward, captains quarters as well as all the crewman's are enormous. Sick bay is twice as big etc. I think they upscaled the ship to 1400 feet or something like that. The TOS was around 996 feet. So with everything including the hallways up to twice as big they need at least 1800 feet. They upscaled but ended up creating the same "problem" that people seem to think the TOS-E has.
