Pairing idea: Seven of Nine/(male) Vulcan

I have to say, I find all pairinga of Seven of Nine in canon not good enough. For a long time, I used to pair her with Harry Kim, but I am now rethinking it, as it may be bad for Harry. Also, unlike Kes, who works really well unpaired, I don't like this idea for Seven. Which made me think about alternatives and I came up with this idea: what if she became romantically involved with a Vulcan! If I wrote this, it would probably be a male Vulcan, but a female one may work too (if one is to take the Picard series into consideration).

It's mostly because the Vulcans think in a similar way to Seven. Rationally, directly, without metaphors and different meanings… and, in relationships, they usually say what they want (like Seven did in “Revulsion”). Also, Seven’s Borg enhancements make her more likely to survive Pon Farr than most humans.

There was never a time during 7 of 9’s time on Voyager that I ever got the impression that she was interested in having a relationship with anyone. At best, her relationship with the Doctor was the closest, but that was not remotely a romantic one.

I wonder if the cut scene that was sent to Jeri Ryan for her audition might have built things in that direction (or made where she ended up in the finale seem more natural):

And it was a scene between Seven and Chakotay, of Seven having her first memory of laughter. And it was beautiful. And based on that scene, I saw the potential for this character, maybe. And so I could see what this could really be, what the potential of this character was."​

Some of her lack of relationship interest was that Ryan and the writers initially felt they were humanizing her too quickly:

Like that ‘wish to copulate’ scene we talked about, it was WAY too casual, WAY too fast. And then we REALLY backed off fast and she went back to being real, almost robotic again. Because it was just way, way, way too soon to be that casual. I think we all kind of came to that same point , that there’s going to be nowhere to go if she gets there this fast."​

D'oh! I rarely read previous replies in a thread before posting, especially if the thread is >3 pages long. Sadly, this one isn't, but that's beside the point: Great minds think alike, even if we all know people were telling Reg to "get laid" at some point. "Always be part of the solution", as some claim...

Admittedly I am bias my modern Trek, but does it have to be a guy? Back in the 90's there was a huge fanbase for the idea of Seven/Janeway (although I saw them as mentor/student)

Janeway really had to avoid relationships with avoid the crew due to the chain of command, hence delete the wife.

And it’s a far more maternal relationship anyway. You want a relationship of equals.

After rewatching "Revulsion", while there was some cringeworthy dialogue*, I have to admit that Harry and Seven was more interesting** than for Seven/Chakotay or B'Elanna/Tom

* noooooooooooooooooooooooo, really?!​

** Mostly for its awkwardness successfully handled well at all levels***, combined with the underlying fact that their being 70K light years away rightly introduces a nominal amount of discussing a multigenerational crew​

*** Yes kids, contrary to some, Garrett really does know how to act and the occasional rare episode in this Trek show allows him to use some of it and to very good effect (especially as the 24th centuryisms were too much up themselves, even for me, and everyone was underacting it. For the most part, a few episodes and scenes feel un-Starfleet and un-Maquis at the same time...)​

That's what I always thought about Finn. At the beginning of The Force Awakens, he'd been so emotionally abused his whole life, he hadn't even given himself a secret name when his slavers denied him one. But then, when The Last Jedi came out, which canonically takes place just days (maybe a week or two) later, tons of people online wanted him to be in a relationship with Poe. And I was going, Have you all forgotten he just escaped from a literal lifetime of emotional abuse?!*


*In fairness, the writers of both movies had, in fact, seemingly completely forgotten that. (Heck, Steve Rogers exhibits more PTSD in The Avengers alone than Finn or Rey or Poe ever do, and he's a super soldier. )

That epiode really convinced me to Harry/Seven. I can see now that he won't hurt ber for hiz own gain, and will be very careful, if they ever have a relationship (and if not as well).
