Did he never love anyone after that family episode though? Seven was later IIRC. But he might mean family and not romantic love.
Plus, there’s the stuff you think is love in the moment, and years later look back and see that it wasn’t really at all; versus the stuff that really mattered, and still does even many years after they’re gone.

About 20 minutes into the episode I was ready to hate it and give it a 3. I thought Tilly was surprisingly mean-spirited and the whole theater stuff seemed really odd. Then Kasq happened and something in this episode just clicked. We finally got to see why the Doctor had the behavior he had in this show and him "adopting" sam was really nice. I was worried that the Makers would have evil intentions, but it doesn't seem like that is the case. Even the stuff with the cadets started to come into place, and I left the episode thinking why couldn't this have been last week. We didn't need the episode last week, but this episode served as the post-trauma from the Merizoky incident.

I'm giving this episode a 7. It was a very strong second half, I just wish the first half would have been equally as strong.

I kind of wish Tilly had given us some updates on the Discovery crew. This series does take place after Saru's marriage to T'Rina, right?

Talk about a massive letdown with the holo planet. They just use that bloody Starfleet academy set again. :)

I remember that family episode. Didn’t Be’lanna mess with it and turn his children into druggies?

I’ve enjoyed this show pretty much from week one, but this one really got to me. Some real catharsis in the way the story so neatly dovetailed at the end, managing to not only pay off a Voyager story from two decades ago, but also deal with the fallout of the Braka episode in a way that I never expected them to.

I can’t say Star Trek often makes me cry, but the last ten minutes had me misty-eyed throughout.

So nice to see Mary Wiseman, too. Not sure if there’s been any reports from the set of season 2, but I hope they managed to grab her for at least a couple of episodes over there, because she slots so well into this show.

Easy 9 for me, and perhaps my favourite of the season. Think this one will play wonderfully on a rewatch.

My review both positive and negative.

This episode is...I don't want to say it because I've never been one of those fans.

But it is 50% "Do not want" and 50% "Really good Episode."

No points for guessing which parts I disliked and which parts I liked. However, here's my comments for Parts 1 and Parts 2.

Part 1:

1. Why is Tarima transferring? Is the War College too aggressive? Are they teaching them to be Sith there? If she's not there to study what she wants, why doesn't she go back to Betazed?
2. I literally forget her brother is a character in this show.
3. The show itself says that Caleb and Genesis have better chemistry than Caleb and Tarima.
4. Oh, NOW they remember Betazoids are telepaths.
5. I'm sad that Caleb not wanting to take advantage of a drunk Tarima is impressive but it's rare in shows. Even then, she assumes it's because she's a mutant.
6. This show would make more sense if I had any familiarity with Our Town. Or if we did more than just it.
7. I agree with the posters who say Tarima and Genesis ALSO make a better couple.
8. Jayden absolutely faked the flu and good on him.
9. I approve of Tilly returning and wish she was regular cast. I love Tilly and I hate that she's a Lieutenant teaching versus a captain. We deserved Captain Killy.
10. Weird that a planet of telepaths and empaths don't have therapists.

Part 2:
1. Wow, they canonized SF Debris' joke that Belenna inflicted existential trauma on the doctor by killing his child that he clearly did not consider a simulation but a real person.
2. Lots of good references to other VOY shows.
3. I wish Ake had co-parented her.
4. I like the implications that the Makers live on a cube. Are they related to the Borg? Maybe, maybe not.
5. The best acting of the episode by far.

Additional

1. Tilly looming over Tarima is hilarious. This is not meant as an insult but the wildly different heights of the actors is kind of unique in the television I watch.
