Spoilers Starfleet Academy Episode Preview Thread

This one looks like it has lots of potential. The politics of the 32nd century is very interesting to me, tantalising glimpses into the stories that have happened in the past 800 years. Plus Fehr and Picardo are back in this one.

Looks like we get to see the Athena separate its core saucer from the engineering hull (actually the Academy portion), along with what appear to be glowing warp grilles on the back part of the saucer, meaning that multiple sections of the ship appear to be independently warp capable, similar to how Starfleet HQ has independently warp capable segments of its main body.

Well, we know engineering was in the rear half of the saucer, so not a huge surprise. Hopefully this episode will clear up some of the contradictory evidence from Episode 1 as to where Sato/Uhura Atrium is/are on the ship. External clues suggest just above the Deflector Array, context clues (Derem and Genesis running around) suggest in the saucer.

I'd actually say the context clues point to the airlock being on the same level as the Atrium, given that on the exterior of the ship we see there's a docking port/airlock on the same deck as the Atrium windows above the deflector. Genesis also states that Darem is going to have to walk about 250 meters to the nearest programmable matter distributor on the dorsal side of the saucer. While this DOES make sense given the walking distance stated and the location of the atrium windows and the airlock on the outside of the ship, what DOESN'T make sense is Genesis sending Darem all the way to the top of the saucer when we see a programmable matter distributor (aka mine) impact on the side of the hull between the airlock and the atrium window...

I think this is just another instance of visual & script inconsistency for the sake of creating visual spectacle (having Darem walking on the top of the saucer and nearly dying while also making sure he's in range of a tractor beam emitter, of which those are mirrored on the bottom side of the saucer so they could still be used to move him back to the airlock either way).
