They do look terrible for dolphins. Thankfully, they're meant to be humpback whales, and they look fine as far as humpbacks go.

Those were whales? Lol. They look so small and cgi. Like dolphins but bsdly rendered. The whales in STTVH were far more realistic. Hiw far we've fallen in production quality.

They were digital assets directly pulled from Prodigy, only they didn't get the realism treatment the Brikar did so they came off bad.

Honestly, it’s hard for me to not see this as a lame attempt to troll. I don't give a crap about how much you do or don’t like the show and will defend your right to voice criticism as long as I moderate this forum, but comments like this one (“they look like dolphins”) seem to be designed to garner negative reactions from people. Which is what we consider trolling around here. Keep to genuine critique and not whatever this was meant to be. Consider this a friendly warning.

I take it you’re as sure about this “fact” as you are about the cadet quarters set being a redress of the Strange New Worlds quarters set, eh? :p

It was meant as a joke because i made a mistake . But acknowledged.

I wonder how much of Picard season 2 was Matalas and how much was Goldsman.

'Only PIC S3 was TRUE Trek. We want Legacy! The other Kurtzman stuff is WOKE TRASH, put Matalas in charge', et cetera.

Terry Matalas is super woke.

He claimed he was "raised on the first interracial kiss". LOL

Who talks like this? What normal person talks like this?
Only American white liberals, who want to virtue signal.

"What were you raised on?"
"I was raised on the first interracial kiss" :wtf: CRINGE
LeVar Burton looks very happy here. But he is going to find out soon. :guffaw:

Just started a rewatch of The Expanse last night, and (much as when Discovery first came out), I'm just at a loss as to why Trek in general didn't learn lessons from the writing of that show. Of course, they had the benefit of cribbing from an existing series of books, but still.

Do you know how many Golden Raspberry Awards wins and nominations Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman directly and indirectly have?
Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman tanked 5 franchises (Batman, Transformers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Universal Monsters, and The Dark Tower) before they rescued themselves over to streaming NuTrek.
Two of the franchises got rebooted by more talented people (Christopher Nolan: Batman, Kevin Feige: Spider-Man)
Michelle Paradise, who was a writer/showrunner for "The Originals", a spin-off of "The Vampire Diaries", a sexy vampire teen drama/romance show for The CW, didn't help either.
Then there are all the other writers on Discover who worked on "The CW" shows.

In the meantime, Naren Shankar was the showrunner on The Expanse:

The First Duty
Face Of The Enemy
Suspicions
Gambit
Preemptive Strike

I'm kind of annoyed by Vance's prominent position at the negotiations. This seems like something which should have been in the hands of the political leadership. Granted, Starfleet isn't military per se, but this doesn't seem like it's his job.

The ep works fine anyway, of course (I'd follow Fehr's Vance into hell.) But it feels off.
I actually agree with this. Seems to me like it should be President Rillak . On the other hand, Vance negotiated on the Federation's behalf with the Emerald Chain as well.
This sort of thing goes on all the time in Star Trek. I mean, sure we all like Admiral Vance, and I have no objection to seeing him in the episode. Would be nice to include a mute extra in the background who is meant to be a Federation government representative so it wouldn't look like Starfleet was conducting the matter entirely on the government's behalf, though.

The writers don't know the difference between the Federation and Starfleet.

What is the headquarter of the Federation? Seat of government?

Trek's producers lost track of the difference between the Federation and Starfleet way back during TNG. It's dead horse.

It was never this bad in classic Star Trek (and it was inconsequential).

These writers never answered some basic questions in DIS S3 about the Federation and Starfleet leaving Earth.

A military can move its assets (Fleet, HQ, Academy, ETC) very easily, but a political entity? Was the seat of government moved in secret, or did Earth secede? If the latter, why don't they say so? What are the writers trying to say?

What do these writers think the Federation is? Without legitimization by the citizens through elections of a government, the Federation ends. How were the representatives of the Federation members elected? Where did they convene after the Burn and before Mickey brought back easily accessible warp travel?
When they say "Federation" do they mean the administrative body of the Federation, the public servants? Did the public servants leave with the military?

What makes it worse is that since DIS S3 rebuilding the Federation is a core storyline.
Governmental structures, worldbuilding, have become more important. These terms should be clear.

Don't these writers know basic civics? How hard is it to tell the government from the military apart? I guess for Alex Kurtzman and a bunch of YA romance writers, it's very hard.

This very episode had them trying to decide on the seat of government, the were going to set it up in Paris again before deciding on Betazed again at the end. During Disco the seat of government was in Federation HQ, same as Starfleet Command. Which the Disco characters even commented on it being odd for both to share the same facility.

It’s all so similar to Andromeda: the rebuilding of the commonwealth was a mess in that show, so is the rebuilding of the federation now

Why should it be unrecognizable? I'd think in the future, they would better understand cultural preservation than we do now, and enshrine it as a value held across the entire UFP. They also have preservation techniques we don't have.
tbf, it's safe to assume that SanFran took at least one whopper during WWIII

Bro, do you even Star Trek? Writers have been conflating Starfleet and the Federation for Decades.
I think the silliest it got was on DS9 when Bajor was about to join the Federation in Rapture. The signing ceremony was conducted by a Starfleet Admiral and the Bajoran Kai with no representatives from the civilian governments of either power at all. Granted, on Bajor the Kai likely does wield quite a bit of political clout, I would still think something like the planet being admitted into the Federation is something the First Minister would personally attend.

Where is the Federation president? Why is a Starfleet Admiral making enormous decisions without the council or any elected personnel? This is just straight up baffling. I can hand wave a lot, but the president has already been heavily featured.

I really like the adult characters but the kids are just too cheesy for my tastes. I really have to turn my brain off to watch this show.

No, the problem is that he/she hasn't. As The Wormhole alludes, Star Trek has been treating Starfleet and the Federation government interchangeably when it suited the writers at least as far back as TNG. The Council and/or president is invoked on occasions they think it's dramatically useful.
