This is where I point out again that even the sainted Jean-Luc Picard got stabbed in a bar fight when he was a cocky young cadet. And Jim Kirk famously hacked into the Academy computers to rig the Kobyashi Maru test.

Young people are going to act like young people.
Didn't Wesley Crusher rig the shower heads so they dispensed chili sauce?

So, when do they start?

the young actors are in their 20s. I'm not sure why some haters are calling them teens.

I was a teen once, and it doesn't seem that long ago. Lol. I remember what it was like :). What do some of these haters have against young people?

in most tv shows and movies since who knows how long they have young adults in there 20s and even adults in there 30s playing as teenagers

but only if adults in there 30s look like teenagers and there are many in hollywood

Why are you still watching him then.

I keep seeing the comment "SFA is good despite all the negative reviews" but I have seen little toxic negativity towards this show. I swear some of ye go out of yere way to find outrage to get outraged about.
i advise you not to go on Facebook or X then. The negativity towards SFA is overwhelming on there

Much how the Galactic Barrier "keeps us inside," even though it clearly doesn't envelop the Milky Way in all directions and is just a wall at the edge that can be circumnavigated if not flown through (and both TOS and DSC have demonstrated on about four or five occasions that you can, indeed, get through the Barrier even if your ship suffers damage and crew get wounded or even killed). You just accept the psionic barrier's effectiveness at face value and don't question it too deeply.

I'm kind of annoyed by Vance's prominent position at the negotiations. This seems like something which should have been in the hands of the political leadership. Granted, Starfleet isn't military per se, but this doesn't seem like it's his job.

The ep works fine anyway, of course (I'd follow Fehr's Vance into hell.) But it feels off.

I have to admit that I'm uncertain how a psionic shield around Betazed implicitly protected and/or isolated 30 or 40 worlds. Did I misinterpret that?
Nope.

I'd guess they forgot to update that part of the script draft after they changed things a little bit.

I actually agree with this. Seems to me like it should be President Rillak . On the other hand, Vance negotiated on the Federation's behalf with the Emerald Chain as well.

This sort of thing goes on all the time in Star Trek. I mean, sure we all like Admiral Vance, and I have no objection to seeing him in the episode. Would be nice to include a mute extra in the background who is meant to be a Federation government representative so it wouldn't look like Starfleet was conducting the matter entirely on the government's behalf, though.

I think this is a Federation that is still trying to get its act back together. During the Burn, Starfleet may have been the primary glue keeping what was left of the Federation together, and was granted more authority to do things in its behalf than it did in previous times.

There's also the possibility that some of things Starfleet is authorized to do originally began with the Federation Council, and Admiral Vance is merely the point-man in negotiations.

Trek's producers lost track of the difference between the Federation and Starfleet way back during TNG. It's dead horse.
