Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I think from the first three episodes it Is clear this has a potential to become a nice character-driven show. However, it might take some time before I might find these characters actually interesting. Also, and this Is just my problem since the previews, I hope that even in season 1 it won't be sci-fi just by setting.

Greed.

Records are not as important as money. Plus, killing your actors in the name of longer seasons is considered bad form.

So look to the past for the future?

Looking at the present, plenty of network series are more than 10 episodes. The Law & Order and the NCIS universes keep churning for decades with no end in sight.

As for killing actors, since the short streaming seasons cause actors to hustle and find enough jobs to keep them going through the year, the end result is still the same workload just spread out over multiple series.

Let's not kid ourselves that the corporate overlords actually care about the actors.

Does someone have a Morn trading card to answer how old he is?
There is a Morn trading card. It came with the Morn action figure Playmates released in the 90s. No answer as to how old he is though.

Yes, Playmates did a Morn action figure. Their Trek line in the 90s was almost Star Wars like with all the various characters they did action figures of.
Police procedural Star Trek incoming.
Do the Chicago thing and had three different shows set at the same starbase, which I'll name Vanguard for this post as that was a name used in the novels and I'm too lazy to think up something different at the moment. Vanguard Damage Control: The engineers and medics who respond when there is an incident involving damage and injuries. They repair the damage and tend to the injured before they can be transferred to proper medical facilities. Vanguard Security: Adventures of the base's security personnel. Vanguard Med: The bases medical department juggle their personal lives with the medical issues that need to be dealt with.

Since Star Trek Starfleet Academy was linked to Star Trek Discovery - even with a bunch of characters - I expected Discovery (low) level writing style and drama (which I disliked a lot).

Watched all 3 episodes and so far I am pleasantly surprised by me actually liking a bunch of the primary characters (Caleb and Ake + some others potentially) and not just the never not awesome Jett Reno and the Doctor EMH, chuckling about a funny line or moment every once in a while and the way overall themes are woven in to fit a youthful style and show.

So far Starfleet Academy feels fun, not annoying and a lot less teen-angsty and (over)dramatic than Discovery somehow. It will be interesting to see how it all develops.

Anyone know how the viewership ratings are going? Good? Bad?

Sadly it is not in P+’s U.S. top ten so that’s not necessarily a great sign for domestic numbers. But we should have more of an idea when Nielsen releases their figures in a few weeks.

That’s interesting because the website you linked to, @Michael , shows SFA at #9. Still not great but at least it’s on the chart. #2 on Amazon Channels. (Again, whatever that is.)
