Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I do think costuming should be quite different by the 32nd century. Look back at what people wore in 900 - it's not that similar to what we wear today. Hell, even like 100 years ago, young boys still wore dresses. I actually quite like the idea that over the centuries dress may become more formal/elaborate, and then simplify, again, and again, and again.

That said, I understand this is a show for contemporary audiences, not a documentary.

What’s wrong with hoodies? Humanity has been wearing hooded clothing for several thousand years. As long as people have heads there will be people wearing hoodies, and I don’t think they’ll stop, not even in another thousand years.

Civilian clothes in Star Trek are suppose to look ridiculous. It's what Gene would have wanted. That means less hoodies and more skin tight onesies with to big turtleneck collars. If you can give them buttons that blink, then all the better.

Or in Star Trek since 1964.
Not these refugees from a suburban Sixties pool party.

Sooooo, what would one call the thing on the front of the early TNG uniforms? Ya know, the thing that Beverly literally, what’s the word?, unzips in episode 2?

Right. Clasps. How could I miss that?

I see how you both are ignoring the Ensign Ro episode. Again 20th/21st century clothing and zippers in the 32nd century. Laughable.

Also we are talking about the 32nd century not the 23rd. The 23rd is much closer to our time than the 32nd.

Now we need to get the important issue of the characters needing to have futuristic looking haircuts. Except for the Klingon. Klingons must always have 80's Heavy Metal Band hair.

Seems like they're avoiding pointy sideburns on the male characters this go-around.
