I notice how you left out the part a few words after where she said "we choose only to seed life".

Though, thanks for reminding me how Burnham's big worry was someone using it to grow an army. :rommie: As if that was some big impressive thing that the Federation hadn't had the capability to do since before even the TNG era.

How many times can one set of goal posts be moved by the same person?

Genesis was perfectly capable of creating animal life.

I find it hilarious you opened your response by questioning whether I watched Star Trek III or Discovery, and then immediately went on to show you didn't watch Lower Decks Season 4.

As of the LD era, Genesis had been perfected, miniaturized, the technology was proliferated to other species, and was regularly used for Terraforming planets.

There's no evidence that the device was perfected. The Ferengi say that it's used to terraform planets, not create them from scratch. The Federation can terraform planets, that isn't in dispute. What we do know is that the Federation can't play god and create life from scratch by seeding planets with DNA and influencing evolution. The Genesis device in this episode was immediately stolen, and ended up exploding like the original one did. While it did make a planet, it's stated in the episode that it needs to be studied to make sure it's stable enough for colonisation and we never find out either way whether it is.

This looks awesome! I can't wait to watch that show. Quick Question. Is it just me or is tge actress of the captain the same actress as that borg villain in picard? 🤔

It's got to be significant of the thinking of TPTB that the only extended narrative/scene clip being used for marketing is of two old actors with some name value making speeches at each other, while the PR job of the young folks is to shoot social media clips about how awesome it is to hang out with each other on set.

Honestly, the producers and people calling the shots in marketing appear to have no more clue what to do about their aging fanbase than...they or their forebears ever have.

"Smithers, bring me a young person!"

She passed away? I had no idea. Damn. Thank you for the correction.
Yes, that’s why for the season three appearance of the Borg Queen they brought back Alice Krige, who originated the character in Star Trek: First Contact. However, they used a body double and Krige only voiced the Queen for two episodes. Annie Wersching sadly died from cancer in 2023, apparently having kept her diagnosis a secret. She was only 45 years old.

I knew nothing about all that. That's so sad. The last Star Trek Legend i heard about that died was the beloved Actress Majel Barret who played the first officer in the Star Trek pilot and later the nurse in TOS as also Loxanna Troy and the voice of the federation computers in all the TNG shows. Wich made me very sad.

Someone decided to use the Memory Alpha page instead of watching the episode.

Because "needs to be studied to make sure it's stable enough for colonisation" is from the memory alpha page, but this is what was said in the actual episode.

VASSERY [on screen]: I imagine they're in hiding. Since there were no shots fired, Starfleet avoided repercussions. Oh, now we have to deal with the new M-Class planet that formed when the Genesis Device exploded.
FREEMAN: Is it stable?
VASSERY [on screen]: Seems so. We're calling it Locarno, because his atoms were included in the transmogrification of the nebula. We hope to use the planet someday as a home for refugees.

Season 3 finished filming in March 2022, so her death can't be the reason why she didn't come back. Though maybe she had become too ill by that point.

I think it's more likely Terry just really wanted Alice Krige back, since the Season 3 Queen was written to be the First Contact/VOY Endgame Queen.

but this is what was said in the actual episode.
'Seems so' isn't a solid indicator that it is stable though.

They absolutely did, it is called Genesis.
Not remotely the same thing.

Oh, you are correct! Thanks for pointing that out. Looks like I memorized that wrong. :)

I admit I didn’t follow the behind-the-scenes news for season three of Picard as diligently as I use to do with other Trek shows. If we’re assuming her declining health wasn’t a factor, I’d have to wonder why they didn’t bring her back for the voice cameo in those two episodes. As many problems as I had with the season two, I think Wersching did a wonderful job in her role.

Of course I looked it up on memory alpha, as if I'm going to spend 30 minutes watching an episode of television to win an argument with a stranger on the internet. Some of us do have lives you know. But 'seems so' would be indicative of unsureity. They don't know the planet is stable at all.

The WoK version could make a planet habitable, essentially an M class generator, but lifeforms still have to be put there after:
"Instead of a dead moon, a living, breathing planet, capable of sustaining whatever lifeforms we see fit to deposit on it."

Although, as the Genesis Planet soon proved, native vermicular and plant life rapidly developed there, some from microbes on Spock's torpedo casket, so at least some forms of multicellular life quickly evolved.

It was. I watched it, but I was 12 and often had TV on when doing homework. The show was actually called Beverly Hills 90210.

I think the comparison is because a lot of Trek fans are pretty old and disdained the idea of teen dramas in general and still remember it as something anathema. And in Star Trek fandom, for some reason I think hating kids is popular. I never understood the hatred for Wesley Crusher that somehow persists to this day. I get he was terrible in Season 1, but so was everyone else.
I don't hate kids, but even back when I was one I never cared for teen dramas. I had no interest in Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, Party of Five etc. It's just never been my cup of tea even when I was in the targeted age bracket.

But I do agree with you on Wesley. I never got the hate for him either. I liked his character and thought he added a nice element to the show. In fact my biggest issue with early TNG was Picard BECAUSE of the fact he didn't like children and he came off like such an over bearing know it all. Thats not the type of captain that I care to watch on a weekly basis. I don't think I warmed up to him until around Season 3 or 4.
