Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

As I said, leaning into the "complaints" and having fun with it.
I'm not sure that's the intent, I don't imagine the marketing for a property like this will revolve around entertaining relatively niche online complaints, especially ones that may prove to be transient and quickly forgotten if the show turns out to not just be 90210 with a Star Trek skin when it releases in a few weeks.

I know it's just one dopey poster among a cluster of pre-release stuff but it's genuinely fascinated me, and it seems like quite a few other people too (this article is, I think, a very fair reaction). It's a really odd decision from someone in the marketing team - even if the intent is simply "let's try to get young adults into Star Trek", I think the 20~ year olds of today will just laugh out loud at that poster since it's very recognisably echoing a style of television that went out of fashion before they were even born, right down to everyone being airbrushed to perfection. It's like something a 60-year-old businessman would think would appeal to modern kids.

God, this thread proves the fact that Trekkers gonna bitch and moan all day long.

Won't somebody please think of the multi-billion-dollar corporations!
You are hurting the feelings of corporations!
Corporations are people after all!
Stop criticizing corporate slop!

How about stop engaging with it because they will not stop so long as people are talking about it and drawing in viewers. Complaining about it is a win for the corporations.

Go do something you actually enjoy.

Because posting thoughts, memes, screenshots and charts from other sources and not coming up with an original thought on your own is oh so much better.

I said nothing about corporations. I said I, that’s me, choose to wait to actually watch an episode before I make a judgment call. I also said, I, again, that’s me, realize that I’m likely not the audience that the show is directed towards. And guess what? I’m okay with that. But I (again me) will give it a chance before I condemn it.

Of course you left that all out of your quote when you decided to come at me with thoughts and screen grabs from other sources.

Yeah that's fair, I've definitely seen some absurd hate coming toward the show on Reddit. But I feel like in this thread we can surely have a laugh about a poster that - by anyone's standards - is a bit dorky, without it being taken as a screed against the entire show.

You have several options to choose from regarding where they drew their inspiration for the poster.

NuTrek is so creatively bankrupt, they even have to copy their promotional material.

Hey, here's a novel idea for you - how about you don't watch it if you don't like it?

Life's too short to be complaining about a show that's clearly not made for you.

We're star trek fans. Many of us have supported the franchise for decades. We've earned the right to critique and complain about it. We'll watch some of it and probably complain even more. Again we've earned that right i would think. When we see something badly written we are going to say it.Luckily kurtzman will be gone soon and the academy show will probably be the last star trek he produces. Im very happy about that. Hes done enough damage to the prime timeline.

Ah, fans. In twenty years, yall will be saying how good the Kurtzman era is.

How do I know? See Enterprise. And the Star Wars prequels. Both hated at the time but now reevaluated and many naysayers at the time say, “Eh, these are actually pretty good.”

I'm so tired of it from those fans, especially with ENTERPRISE. It wasn't treated well then and stop acting like it's good now.
