So What Are you Reading?: Generations

Gah, this pizza talk is torturing me. I just discovered I've developed a tomatoe allergy a few months ago, after years of having spaghetti and or pizza at least once every week or two. And of course, since I can't have them I keep finding myself with horrendous cravings for them.
As for my reading, I finished up Q-Zone, the second Q Continuum trilogy book Tuesday night, and yesterday I started Star Wars: The High Republic: Out of the Shadows by Justina Ireland.

So have a white pizza. Have your pasta with Alfredo or Pesto.

Pomodoro and Marinara (is there a difference?) aren't the only Italian sauce bases available. The Italians didn't start eating tomatoes until the 17th century. Mainly because they didn't realize they were edible.

Finished Boogeymen last night. The first half is fun and then it kind of fizzles out a bit near the end. Reading The Great Starship Race next.

Now two chapters into Ring of Fire. Encountered . . . not exactly spoilers of what happens in the first six episodes of SNW Season 3, as teasers of what happens.

I've lately been reading a ton of material on the history of the American West (plus Civil War): quite involving stuff.
Michael Wallis' 'Billy the Kid: The Endless Ride' is a particularly good volume, of late.

Going further back in history - and focusing more on an exploratory bent - 'A Pirate of Exquisite Mind', by Diana and Michael Preston... is a fine biographic of an underrated British explorer (and buccaneer, earlier on)

I finished Star Wars Jedi trial, a boring book.
Tonight I am going to start with "The colonel and the King" by Peter Guralnick.

That's not the same, it's the combination of red sauce, (vegan) cheese, and toppings that I loved so much.

I finished reading Dillard's novelization of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. I enjoyed this one very much. It expands the story a bit while still keeping the propulsive pace of the movie.

Finished Flashforward. It's about time since I watched the TV series back when it originally aired. I found the ending meh in both. It could have been much better. But it was a fast read.

About to start Stardust. I've seen the film but never read the novel.

Almost done with The Mist as well. It's well done given how long ago it was written. It's a bit difficult at times to keep track of all of the characters, not no where near as bad as The God of the Woods. That's one of my less than great reads this year.

And I have one more chapter of Hester, and then I can get a late start on the Bleak House read along.

Earlier today I finished rereading Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol. 1: Change is Constant, which I really enjoyed. I read once before few years ago, but never got past the second volume of the series, this I was hoping to read more of it. I've been a big fan of the Ninja Turtles since I was a kid, and I've been wanting to get more into the different franchise now, and decided to start with the IDW comics.
Once I finished that I started Star Trek Vol. 1: Godshock, the first collection in the Lanzing/Kelly series focused on Sisko and the Theseus crew. Only 31 pages into it, and it's been pretty good so far.

Hmm. As I recall, I used to know a woman who worked in the merchandising end of that franchise. From back when I was skating. I think she might have been on the Costa Mesa Precision on Ice adult drill team when I was the team's token male skater.

Be that as it may, I've finally (after some procrastination) begun Erich Fromm's Escape from Freedom. Not even a full chapter in, and his theories are both fascinating and frightening. And he wrote it in 1941, and last revised it in 1969.

Finished The Mist. I thought it was overall okay. Starting Nightmare Alley. I recently watched the b&w version of the latest adaptation, and it was great. Looking forward to actually reading the book. It's short, so it shouldn't take long.

Star Wars: Into the Light was a satisfying read. It's got Wookiees and wonder, and Claudia Gray is a generally strong writer.

Current reading:

Batman Resurrection
The Mysterious Affair at Styles
(reread for the 52 Book Club's Agatha Christie Challenge)

I just finished Batman: Revolution, the sequel to Resurrection. I enjoyed both, but found the sequel to be even better, so if you enjoy this one, I heartily recommend pressing on!

Likewise, if you're in a listening mood, Audible's audio drama adaptation of Mysterious Affair at Styles with Peter Dinklage as Poirot is quite good, as well!
