Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

"The Empath" is widely regarded as an inferior and shockingly low-budget Season 3 episode but I find it an engaging and moving story, one that contains one of DeForest Kelley's best single performances in all of TOS as well as a completely mute, physical performance by guest star Kathryn Hays as Gem. The Vians also have a very cool and interesting look for Season 3 aliens of the week.

I'll always defend "The Empath."

Same. Always a defendable episode. Best showcase of the trio's friendship in TOS... possibly the franchise.

I do think serialized seasons, particularly those with a big “mystery” storylines, may be a bigger disappointment if they don’t stick the landing at the end of the season. Kind of retroactively ruin the whole season.

A bad idea in a serialized format can ruin an entire season, but I’ve seen episodic shows where they just did a different bad idea each week so idk which is better.

I think, by and large, SNW has received more positive feedback while DISCO received more negative feedback generally.

Just my subjective opinion but the funny thing to me is while I would never say I am a big fan of either series, I felt DISCO generally improved over its run while SNW is declining in quality the longer it goes, but it still has a season and a half to go so they may turn it around.
I like DSC, but I can't disagree with any of what you said, especially about how an entire season can be ruined. "Star Trek does 9/11" and the way they did it torpedoed ENT S3 for me. With DSC S3, I like the idea of The Burn, but the cause of The Burn was stupid. As far as SNW S3, it's not serialized like those other two examples, but nothing I've heard about it makes me think it's something I should go out of my way to watch.

That's a lot of Season 3s I mentioned.

I remember being excited about DSC when it was announced, but it could've been Star Trek: Anything and I probably would've felt the same way at the time. I was excited about PIC because it was a chance to finally see what was going on Post-2387 in the Prime Timeline, which I'd been wondering about since the 2009 Movie came out. That's what I thought they'd do for the first new series.

Every other new series after Picard? Some ideas I've liked better than others, but I haven't been out-and-out excited about any of them. So I'm ready to call it a night with the Kurtzman Era if SFA doesn't grab me.

Not until I get the Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes crossover film that Paramount’s takeover of Warner could (and must 😉) lead to.
I'd give real credits to watch Mon-El or Wildfire knock Jimmy Kirky across his bridge while Shrinking Violet laughs uproariously.:bolian:
