Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

"The Empath" is widely regarded as an inferior and shockingly low-budget Season 3 episode but I find it an engaging and moving story, one that contains one of DeForest Kelley's best single performances in all of TOS as well as a completely mute, physical performance by guest star Kathryn Hays as Gem. The Vians also have a very cool and interesting look for Season 3 aliens of the week.

I'll always defend "The Empath."

Same. Always a defendable episode. Best showcase of the trio's friendship in TOS... possibly the franchise.

I do think serialized seasons, particularly those with a big “mystery” storylines, may be a bigger disappointment if they don’t stick the landing at the end of the season. Kind of retroactively ruin the whole season.

A bad idea in a serialized format can ruin an entire season, but I’ve seen episodic shows where they just did a different bad idea each week so idk which is better.

I think, by and large, SNW has received more positive feedback while DISCO received more negative feedback generally.

Just my subjective opinion but the funny thing to me is while I would never say I am a big fan of either series, I felt DISCO generally improved over its run while SNW is declining in quality the longer it goes, but it still has a season and a half to go so they may turn it around.
I like DSC, but I can't disagree with any of what you said, especially about how an entire season can be ruined. "Star Trek does 9/11" and the way they did it torpedoed ENT S3 for me. With DSC S3, I like the idea of The Burn, but the cause of The Burn was stupid. As far as SNW S3, it's not serialized like those other two examples, but nothing I've heard about it makes me think it's something I should go out of my way to watch.

That's a lot of Season 3s I mentioned.

I remember being excited about DSC when it was announced, but it could've been Star Trek: Anything and I probably would've felt the same way at the time. I was excited about PIC because it was a chance to finally see what was going on Post-2387 in the Prime Timeline, which I'd been wondering about since the 2009 Movie came out. That's what I thought they'd do for the first new series.

Every other new series after Picard? Some ideas I've liked better than others, but I haven't been out-and-out excited about any of them. So I'm ready to call it a night with the Kurtzman Era if SFA doesn't grab me.

One of my favorite episodes. No need to defend it. I don't dislike season 3 like a lot of fans. There are a bunch of great episodes.

There are millions of good stories left to tell, as long as the writers stick to sci-fi and avoid trendy politics (Stacy Abrams as the Earth President ALREADY hasn't aged well)...

To add to Nyotarules' post - lets add The Outcast, Angel One, Code of Honour off the bat

Fairhaven has some questionable elements

And then there were the raft of 18 year old women mid 30s Shatner was paired with in TOS

And the one that creeps me out most - J. C. Brandy who played Batanides (Picard's former love interest) in Tapestry. We have Patrick Stewart (born 1940 and so around 52 when this was filmed) kissing J C Brandy (born Nov 1975 - episode was released in Feb 1993 and so she was 17) and while not shown sleeping with her.

She was a literal child legally and that is just not right

I didn't have a problem with Stacey Abrams on DSC. It shows where the series stands politically, and luckily for me it stands where I stand.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion should be seen as the norm, not trendy. And definitely not as a negative. "All men are created equal", since the Constitution was brought up. Or rather, as it should say, "All people are created equal.'

Also for every cameo by someone such as Stacey Abrams you have Elon Musk High School - both people were referenced on screen for about the same amount of time and both references are about as consequential to the overall story/series

Kim Darby, sure. (19, I think, but close enough.) Who else was under 20? How many is a "raft"?

Indeed. And how lucky for you.

Or rather, as it should say, "All people are created equal.'

"InALIENable." "HUMAN rights." If only you could hear yourselves.

Also for everyone cameo by someone such as Stacey Abrams you have Elon Musk High School

And at the time they were considered more similar than different. Reference him again in Starfleet Academy and I will withdraw the distinction. I'm not holding my breath.
