The Most Disliked Episode of TNG, Finals - 2025 Edition...

Of what's left, my favorite that gets a vote is:

"Justice"

Hear me out:

The first episode to try to really dig into the Prime Directive, and its mechanics, in an updated way, despite script rewrites, there still is a good story in this even though it meanders - not unlike some of my posts. Worse, blending in ideas that lack the needed weight, ostensibly to sell the absurdity of the situation doesn't help because we're not buying into this world to feel the threat of it. Especially when it's Wesley, who doesn't feel like a character yet and it could have been any crewmember. Maybe if this were made in season 2 or 3, and - indeed - later seasons would figure out how to make it work, then perhaps. But when the right formulas were found to create classics with, those were relied on forevermore until it became beyond tropey, or "mix'n'match" for plot ideas. Never mind the story spends more time not caring about who has the dumbest janitor mop affixed to their heads as wigs or who is dripping the most massage oil. Can't even feel sorry for the flower bed... But the seeds of what would grow to flourish later were set and if this episode were never made, for all we know, we'd never see the subsequent episodes either as good or at all. None of the other stories set the stage to make a trope, among various other reasons for various episodes. /my2cents

A few in there that aren't bad... but I'm choosing "We'll Always Have Paris". I have always quite liked it. Early holodeck days and it just felt great that they could be in Paris suddenly. We learn more about Picard. And I liked the multiple Datas sci-fi story.

The thing about most of these is that they are kind of mediocre. Not great, but not obviously bad either. And those tend to be my least favorite, because they're the least memorable. That's why I vote to save "Justice" from the ultimate disgrace, because it's actually a lot of fun in a campy way.

A Matter Of Perspective this time.

It was fun seeing the Holodeck as a tool for investigating.

One of the advantages of having a less popular choice is that I don't need to do any thinking between rounds.

(The rumour that I don't do any thinking anyway is both unkind and unfair).

Voting for "A Matter of Perspective" ...again.

It deserves a little of its namesake:

"Justice"

See post 22 for a lovely, sleep-inducing explanation as to why (and even with its clunkiness, it's arguably still better than not resolving the perspectives revolving 'round Riker's randiness that Troi confirmed was the truth as everyone saw it, so what was it! (also cue Cat from Red Dwarf asking what is it)) : https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/the...-tng-finals-2025-edition.320228/post-15270272

Ugh, do I ever hate "A Matter Of Time." It's one of the few I just can't ever handle rewatching (there are 3, maybe 4, such episodes remaining on our list)

Anyway, I'll do "Justice" again. That one is cheesy good fun.

Is there something "a matter" with me? Having got rid of A Matter of Perspective, I am moving on to "A Matter of Time".
As Pumpkin Bread (that'll confuse anyone who looks at this after Hallowe'en) said, Matt Frewer alone makes this worth saving. At the first watch, we are as fooled as the crew apparently are and the denouement is a great twist On a rewatch, seeing how Rasmussen thinks he's playing the crew is even better.
