I mean, McCoy carries Spock's katra in his own body for a while and even in TVH, TFF and TUC he still seems like there's a lot about Spock he still doesn't know and understand (Sybok's existence, for one), so a meld might not impart as much information transfer as one assumes.

Or who is half brother is, I mean somebody in season 1 or 2 had a mind meld with Spock and knew about Michael. Maybe Spock learned from his mistakes and shields that part of himself now?
That was when Spock melded with La'an in S1E4. In that case, they were digging specifically at La'an's memories of her last conversation with her brother, which triggered Spock's good-bye with Michael, which was still a relatively "fresh wound" for him, as SNW S1 began only a few months after Disco's S2 finale.

Isn’t it reasonable to presume the initiator of the meld controls the directional flow of information and it would take a very powerful telepath to override such parameters (something neither Kirk nor McCoy are)?
And Spock's ease with his emotions might be another way in which his mindmeld 'style' (why wouldn't it be personal for each user?) might be a way to more strongly attack someone.

I rather enjoyed this one, but it felt perhaps a little rushed. Almost wish we'd had a two parter to let it breath - e.g. we could have had part one focused around Pike's life with Batel (WTF? What is going on? Whats happening? Little hints something is massively awry, snippets of the "real world", a cliffhanger reveal of the stand-off) and then Part 2 flashing back to show how we got there. They could have skipped a gimmick episode in the run to make it fit.. though I guess maybe this idea is a little Wandavision which could be seen as a gimmick in and of itself!

The "Inner Light" elements felt emotional. They worked but I felt they were an after-thought. The statue part felt a little convoluted and rushed as a reveal to me. A lot being crammed into the episode and moving very quickly. Why did she her new genes turn her into... a statue?

Something this entire season has felt rushed - the producers seem to have acknowledged this. Everything has felt a little first draft without polish. Hopefully S4 will find the Lemon Pledge again.

Perhaps, but as I said, SF is not usually in the business of destroying planets if they can help it.
I concur, any major Empire or Species with half a brain will realize that Stars & Planets are the "Natural Resources" of the Universe.

Destroying them is INCREDIBLY Stupid & Wasteful when natural processes already aggregated them all into a convenient location for you to harvest.

Destroying them should be the ABSOLUTE LAST option, each Star & Planet has countless amounts of Energy & Material to harvest for whatever purposes you can devise.

It's just a matter of figuring out how, which by the 24th century, most have figured out some solution to do so.

We know that production was rushed this season so I have to wonder if when they filmed the scene for Pike and Batel going through the gate it was originally another cause?

Because absolutely nobody around them breaks their conversation or even *looks at* the twin phaser beams from the sky?

Yeah. Unfortunately the rushed production certainly showed. The effects were lacking and of poorer quality. I miss episodes like we got in the first season. Just going down to a planet with a culture like the first episode. Everything seems to be romance and mostly ship board scenes. I know they are proud of their enterprise sets but im getting tired of that. I wanted some rousing adventures with new species and civilizations explored. Didn't get that. Well 16 episodes left. Not really excited for this series anymore.

We can only hope SNW will continue to be as successful as Happy Days was after it "jumped the shark".

I think people watched happy days out of habit. Maybe hoping it would get better. It was not a success critically. The production value got very cheap, clothing was no longer period and actors wore stuff they owned or modern clothing was used to try and mimic period clothing. It was obviously not period clothing. Sets were also much cheaper. The show was a shadow of what it once was.

If it isn't successful, it will probably be cancelled.

It was canceled with a shortened last season. They have filmed/filming the last 3 seasons back to back to back. That means I don't expect production quality, writing etc. to reach season one highs.

You're describing years after the shark episode. (Except for the hair. That happened pretty much after the first or second season.) When Fonzie jumped the shark they hadn't even had the Mork episode yet. And they had only just spun off Laverne and Shirley.
