Their fashion will get worse :D

Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about it. Up until the ending, I was really enjoying the episode. The death of the Gorn actually made me sad, I kinda wish they had just ended it there.

I think I would have liked it more if we, the audience, had been shown that they were being watched by a Metron. It’s the conversation that didn’t work for me, especially since it ultimately turned out to be pointless for Erica’s character, as she doesn’t even remember it.

I do hope she carries some resentment for what happened to the Gorn. That was her friend and she was brutally murdered by Starfleet, based solely on their pre-existing prejudice. I hope that it's further touched upon.

Does "reset your perception of the Gorn" mean "make them look more humanoid for you"? :shifty:
They didn't mean Erica's perception cause she still felt sorry for her ally-gator afterwards.

Yup, completely agreed with this. The Metron stuff as it stands goes nowhere and does nothing, and I think it kinda cheapens the ending. The Metron should’ve stayed passive and not gotten directly involved, making for a more open-ended finale.

Yeah the Metron stuff was not necessary for this episode. I honestly wish they had carried it all the way with the Enemy Mine/Dawn situation. Also, We did see Erica move past her PTSD of what happened on the Gorn ship, and it would be character advancement if she does continue that Anger towards La'An and starfleet for what they did. Maybe this is the way to get Erica out of the "Star Trek" equation without actually killing her, which would be welcome. This also shows the struggle with the (Brannon Braga coined term) Continuity Pornographers. It makes a show like SNW hogtied on what they can do, and having a call back to the Metrons just feels like an unnecessary but fan-servicey thing.

I still enjoyed this episode and yeah please give Navia more to do because she was great in this episode. I just wish it was it's own thing rather than having to be tied to Star Trek in even the most unnecessary ways.

When ENT had the Organians before TOS, it was so much better

It helped that the Organians were basically the center of the entire episode. Someone up thread mentioned it and I think I agree. If you wanted to do the Metrons, make them the center of the episode, and you can still focus on Ortegas.

I'll have to rewatch it, but my interpretation of the line was that the Metrons were going to have to rerun their experiment in the future (say, in five to six years time) to reset humanity's perception of the Gorn as Lizards simply to be killed. Humanity is not yet ready to meet the Metrons, so they wiped Erica's memory of the Metrons, but allowed her to keep her memories of her experiences with the Gorn.

Count me in as one who didn't need the Metron thing to happen, though the above suggestion that a Metron was behind it would have been fine if it hadn't been shown interacting with Ortegas. I don't know that I've actively resented that faction of the fandom obsessed with continuity before that stupid "reset your perception" thing was there. A minor issue in the grand scheme of things, of course, but still, annoying. And of course, those who obsess over the continuity probably won't find this acceptable anyway.

I found it a bit funny that since Chapel and M'Benga were absent from the episode, Ortegas seemingly went directly to her quarters after beaming up instead of sickbay.

At this point, according to SNW, the Federation knows more about the Gorn then they do Romulans. So in Arena I guess Kirk was just really ignorant and Spock didn't tell him anything because he thought it would be funny to not give him any info on a species he knows fairly well :brickwall: Also, the Enterprise remains the only ship in Starfleet capable of transporting medical supplies.

This isn't a bad episode, but its a bunch of tropes we've seen before mixed with more of the continuous Gorn retcons and focused on a character I don't find that interesting.

6/10, and thats being a bit generous but the Metron cameo was a decent surprise and the episode overall being so much better then last week's makes me feel more generous towards it.

Kirk didn't know who Surak was.

It was fine if not derivative. But the ending basically just ruined it. Like I don't know who that was for... because it was just groan inducing as fan service.

Even the thing with the light was silly, but if they just left it at that at least it would have been an "easter egg" instead of the info dump we got at the end.
