He was an odd duck of a blue shirted redshirt. Why he felt the need to bring up that his roommate at the academy was half Caitian in the middle of his pissing contest I have no idea.
Wasn't the first redshirt a blueshirt?
Yep. This poor sucker* in "The Man Trap"

* Too soon?

I'm looking forward to Navia being able to use her acting chops. Hopefully it's a little more serious than last week. I want to give this episode a high score.

After going back to re-watch part of S1, I can't help but wonder where this show could have gone if the main cast looked like this:

Pike
Number One
Spock
La'an
Ortegas
Hemmer!
Babs as the same character, but *not "M'Benga".

No Uhura, Chapel, Scotty, Pelia, or Kirk. Additionally, no T'Pring, Sam Kirk, Stonn, or Korby. Not to say those actors couldn't appear, but have them appear in other roles.

7 characters would have made a good ensemble, without all the TOS "small-universe" intrusion. Plenty to work with there, character development and story-wise. We could have done without the endless Spock-Chapel shipping, and concentrated on NEW characters in the Pike era, not TOS reboots in the Pike (but Kirk is there every week) era.

You could even keep the Gorn, except . . . call them something else. Call them . . . the Norg! (Or the Nrog) Boom. Continuity restored.

I was exclusively listing episodes where a “character is stuck on an planet with an enemy”. So no, “Shuttlepod One” would not fit that bill. And neither would “Brother” or “All Is Possible” for that matter.

Gotcha, I was mostly thinking of episode were much of the focus/crisis is centered around or on a shuttle (but not a pleasant trip, like Samaritan Snare where no "crisis" happens with Wesley and Picard.) What about "Innocence" (Tuvok trapped on a planet with a disabled shuttle with children slowly disappearing by a mysterious "monster." (Actually part of the natural death cycle for these species who... Are born as adults and die as children? Don't fully remember that detail, just Tuvok being annoyed by the kids as he tries to fix the shuttle. )

Yes, they're aging Drayans (I believe) who Benjamin Button it.

I personally like Gravity far better for a Tuvok story in a crashed shuttle.

That's a good one too, kind of a good one (crashed Delta Flyer) Voyager's "Muse" but not sure I'd fully "count" that one, still a good episode.
