Still. Door tech hasnt advanced in 800 years?
Can I ask how door tech can advance? And how you can tell just by looking at them?
I would think there comes a point where you just can't improve on a door anymore. I mean, by the 24th century it's at a point where they open automatically when one approaches it. What further advancement is there beyond that? Making it sentient and capable of having conversations? Giving birth to a baby door?
Dematerializing and re-materializing rather than opening and closing.
Exactly Laura. To have orange doors just like pikes Enterprise 800 years earlier seems pretty silly. The doors were always considered advanced tech. 800 years later they haven't advanced it further seems pretty unrealistic.
Laura came up with a way better advancement theory than you did.
Essentially, force fields replacing a door - combined with scanning, disinfecting, etc. It'd ruin a lot of stories, though. And I'm sure there are plenty of good reasons why the old/simple ways are best - when the new tech malfunctions, the old tech might hold up.
Materializing and dematerializing seems like a waste of energy.
I doubt the SFX budget would allow for it.
I figure they would use their programmable matter.
800 years in the future. Doubtful energy would be an issue any longer .
But as so many here point out. The tos enterprise just had to be changed because it didnt look advanced enough for today's audiences. The doors look so primitive for the 32nd century. They could spend a little to make them look more advanced as need than pike rather than recycle them between sets .

Maybe? Still seems stupidly impractical.
Some places will continue using older forms of doors for a variety of reasons. Aesthetic choice. Practical considerations. Sense of tradition.
