The dialog felt a little forced at times in this episode, as did some of the plot. Wouldn't rate it as *bad*, so... mid, I guess.
I noticed that too. The dialog and direction seemed a bit off at points. Some of the subtle humor didn't land as it should. Not awful but flat.

Terra Nova was founded in 2078 after a nine-year, low-warp journey from Earth and that society eventually grew into, what, a few thousand people in the generations after the cometary impact on the planet in 2081?

You missed a lot of the episode, the monster ship was a clump ship, assembled over hundreds of years by humans using whatever salvage they could find or steal.

And it wasn't magic, it was probably the same type of optical deflector technology as the Hunters used.

The ship was able to destroy planets because it had a giant ass tractor beam.

We've known tractor beams can cause seismic instability in planets since TNG, so it's not much of stretch that a giant overpowered one would be able to rip apart one.
I didn't "miss" this. I find this too convenient.
The same as the fully explodable D7 still being inside, despite the main plot being about the alien ship sucking away energy from it's collected ships.

The mystery is not that a "clump ship" has some alien technology. It's how the hell some ancient human pirates were able to obtain such ungodly superior alien technology.

And THAT is something that is better left vague - just hinting at the interesting stories those humans might have gone through.

I loved how nearly everybody on the cast had something to do, truly a great Ensemble setup.

Also, everything got jammed.

So depending on Wireless everything wasn't a good idea if you don't have shielded hardline backups.

Or "Land Lines". Who knew =D
Perhaps that's why they have the wall based intercoms in TOS? I actually don't recall if they've used those in SNW? If not, I guess this is their origin story!

So they have just been living on that ship, breeding with each other for 200 years? I feel like we are missing some important stuff to this story.

I just wasn’t a fan. Too similar to the Doomsday machine with its planet destroying abilities.
Honestly, I could skip that aspect. Just picture some dire survival situations that push the crew to go beyond their moral bounds. I don't really need to see that.

But I wasn't a fan of the idea either because for a lone group to develop a ship that was so much stronger than any Klingon and Federation ship and able to destroy planets easily just is not feasible at all. Totally unbelievable. They did what neither the Federation or Klingon Empire could do.

I get the narrative reason for doing that but it broke my suspension of disbelief.

I suspect Pelia was dying to install a landline network on the ship. Sure did have a lot of hardware to set it up. They missed a trick by not showing the red Batphone among her collection. And an Ericophone for Ortegas.

Question. How did the Enterprise know to rescue the Farragut when they were being jammed at the time they called for help? Did I miss something?

doesn't mean there still isn't anti-matter in the stores.
If the energy was sucked away, you're not storing anti-matter. It's released and interacting with regular matter. In other words, exploding!

It takes energy to contain antimatter because it can't touch regular matter.

Loved it!!!
I gave it a 9.
One of their best episodes ever.
Only minor annoyance was the use of Lens Flares, at one scene I thought I was interrogated or something. What is the damn appeal of lens flares?

Great episode!!

p.s. the analog phones, such a BSG vibe!
