So I'm just going to come right out and say it, I want to see Voth in this show. I want them re-settled on Earth or at the very least on some whiteboard in the classroom listed as one of the sapient species from Earth.
Colour me sceptical if you actually believe in living that lifestyle offline.
Lifestyle? No. But, references? Absolutely. I enjoy referencing historical figures often, and recently quoted Zeno of Citum, though a bit out of date.
I would not be surprised by out of date references in Star Trek.
People probably quote Shakespeare with out realizing they are quoting Shakespeare. 
But this Academy show is set in the *far* future of Star Trek, a future which includes the repercussions of Nero’s temporal incursion into the 23rd century creating the JJ-verse, likely at the start of the time war which resulted in the destruction of Romulus and Remus. This Academy series is a bit like the Voy episode Timeless, or a reboot of Living Witness starring the Doctor, or the future scenes from All Good Things. Star Trek prime timeline should be set in the early 25th century, not in a fantasy sci-fi cloud cuckoo land. Therefore, as the future is not yet written, by setting this new show in the Disco-verse alt future, it is technically neither canon or prime, merely a possible multiverse future of the prime Star Trek Universe which is still truly awaiting to be written and continued in a Legacy series.

Aren't you the guy who thought that doing "Kes as Phoenix" would make for a great Star Trek movie?
This storyline is *not* beyond the realms of possibility and would also be rather cool. Kes returned to screen canon back in the 00’s after her departure in the Star Trek: Voyager episode The Gift, where she helped cut 10k off the ships journey home. Unfortunately, Kes was mis written in a future episode called Fury: so having Kes return as a character similar to a Phoenix, as well as the X-Men character of the same name, in a new series or movie would be cool. Kes could now be in control of both her anger and nurturing nature, having lived past her 9 year life span becoming omnipotent with Q like powers, having ridden from the flames of subjugation and abuse via slavery with the Kazon, a rebound relationship with Neelix, and the experiences of other ‘mentors’ she spent time with during her mortal life on board Voyager, a sum of her experiences with Captain Janeway, The Doctor and Tom Paris in particular. Seven of Nine did have a beautiful episode with Kes, these scenes between Kes and Seven are probably some of the most important character interactions in modern Star Trek if you think about it?
Discovery's entire 5th season was dedicated to solving the mystery set up by TNG's 'The Chase'. Like they literally show the scene where the progenitors message is revealed. Discovery's season 3 episode 'Unification III' is a continuation of 'Unification I and II and they literally show Spock's speech about why he needs to help the romulans.
I mean whatever helps you sleep at night but its prime timeline. Deal with it.
The Progenitors exist in all timelines and multiverses, as they existed at the very origins of galactic creation, at the point in time where all corporeal perceived multiverses and temporal convergences began… including those of the Disco verse and other Nu-Trek spinoffs, such as JJ-Trek.
In the far future. No matter how the universe unfolds in each particular multiverse, the messages of the Progenitors would still be pure and true wherever they were to be projected.
However, should the universe begin to uncontrollably descend into chaos, disorder and self destruction, the Preservers would be dispatched with their Ark ships to help record, archive and preserve life throughout the galaxy.

Star Trek Discovery in its entirety takes place in the Prime Timeline (AKA the same universe as all 11 other Star Trek Television series), and no amount of arbitrarily declaring otherwise is going to change that fact.
