Never! That was a typo. It's suppose to read as ADM BARRY KIM. Other dude in Starfleet who just happened to have a similar name. Hopefully Starfleet will fix the typo so our beloved Barry can get the honor he is due.

People who just want to chill and do whatever don't join Starfleet.
In fact, Starfleet is pretty specifically the place for people who can't just chill and do whatever.
Starfleet Rank was an indicator of trust and accomplishment, not power and position.
And being an Admiral is bad because Starfleet is full of people who want to be out there doing things instead of being relegated to overseeing others who are out there doing things.
To be fair, in the Tapestry Timeline, Picard had been chilling as a Lieutenant JG for nearly forty years.
Not every accomplishment needs to be rewarded with more rank and responsibility. Otherwise why wasn't O'Brien promoted? Riker? Bashir?
Which is absurd.
It's not really an issue with Nog, since Aron is dead, but I'd rather Starfleet Academy not imply any characters who still might appear in further series/shows passed away in the line of duty.

Actually, Bashir was promoted. He was a Lt. j.g. for seasons 1-3, then we see him with the two full pips of a full Lt. in the 4th season premiere, "THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR". (Same as Jadzia, though she went from Lt. to Lt. Cmdr.)
We do not see the spelling of the full name ‘Kim’, the exact name is obscured, so this could even be an ancestor of Tilly from the mirror universe?

I really did not want this show, but I guess that I don’t *have* to watch it if I do not want to, this Trek is probably meant for a new generation, not for me, but I will watch one episode. If I do not like this new show then I am going to start watching Star Wars all the way from the very beginning and join a Star Wars BBS. I have never actually seen Star Wars, so this could be the Trek show that pushes me over to the ‘dark side’, if you excuse the pun.
PS, the Jem’Hadar lady does not actually look like a Jem’Hadar? Has this been confirmed?
Also, is Robert Picardo *definitely* playing the EMH Doctor from Voyager/Prodigy? I know that there were talks of a crossover between Doctor Who and Star Trek, perhaps Picardo is actually a Time Lord? I’m not sure how Billie Piper would potentially fit into an academy show, though…. Unless they wanted to reference the Time War and bring in a few Daleks?

Gina Yashere is playing Commander Lura Thok, a Klingon/Jem Hadar hybrid and the Athena's XO.
Picardo has mentioned in a couple of interviews about it being the same EMH in Prodigy and him being an Academy lecturer being a natural development from his role as mentor to the Protostar crew.

Clone Wars is best watched with a viewing order list to skip the bad episodes, and Mandalorian and Ahsoka are best watched after Clone Wars and Rebels. I hope you enjoy it.

I also get the impression that the Chancellor of the Academy would have originally been played by Kate Mulgrew, should this show be set in the prime timeline and not in far future Disco verse? The new actress which they hired instead does not have the same screen presence, being more like Geneviève Bujold on first impression?
Also, all of the CGI ariel Academy shots look very similar to those from Star Trek: Prodigy, it would have made more sense to make a new live action continuation of Star Trek: Prodigy rather than this? But I guess that some of the more complicated characters would be harder to render, such as Zero and Rok.
Such a shame that we did not get a true Star Trek: Legacy show, and I don’t mean the concept that Terry Matalas came up with which was not a true representation of what I had envisaged for a continuation of 24th/25th century Trek, though Seven of Nine of course would still have been the Captain.

O'Brien was a non-com, we have no idea how promotions work for them.
Riker refused multiple promotions over the course of TNG.
Bashir was promoted from Lieutenant Junior Grade to full Lieutenant between seasons 3-4 of DS9.
Actually it makes perfect sense.
For a lot of people self worth is measured by feelings of accomplishment, and Starfleet as an organization has most of their accomplishments originating from from people who are out there on the front lines doing things.
In fact, we are all but literally hit across the face with this fact in Lower Decks with Admiral Buenamigo and Admiral Milius.
Does this mean that the EMH has likely changed his name to reflect his new role and profession? The character could now be called ‘The Lecturer’ instead of ‘The Doctor’? Or as Ace in Doctor Who would say ‘The Professor’. This could be a wink/nod to Doctor Who , should they not want to do a direct crossover between the two shows and keep the link discreet?

There's a shit ton of assumptions here, especially around worth and value without any proof.
Consistent with the previous canon:
RIKER: I was seven months out of the Academy, my head still ringing with words like duty and honour. When they turned on him, I thought they were a bunch of self-serving, disloyal officers, so I grabbed a phaser and defended my captain.
TOS had Ensigns or Crewmen who looked like they'd served in the Eugenics Wars and were still collecting pensions.

Because we've never seen a non-commissioned officer promoted.
Thus we can't say with any degree of certainty how it works for them.
