It's the future. No reason humans can't have polyamorous marriages. I'm pretty sure Roddenberry would approve of this detail.

More likely the hybridization makes her violent and she either dies or leaves Starfleet.

Sisko: ****, all right I'll tell you. When we went back in time, Worf ran into the Enterprise's OTHER doctor. But it didn't change the timeline all right! Yes Worf's dead now but to that other doctor it's just another in a very long list of Klingons he killed.

M’Benga likely does have other children. I’m not sure if the nurse ensign is one of them. M’Benga would have been pretty young when he fathered him. They introduced the character for a reason so he has some significance to the plot.
Or they just wanted a new medical officer that wasn’t just Chapel or M’Benga

Yeah, for Gorn Batel to slaughter him without affecting the main cast.
I thought he might be one of Batel’s victims if she turns violent because of the hybridization. They might have made him stand out a bit so people will care if he dies.
Anyone else find it weird that Pike STILL hasn't told Battel that he's dying too?
We get a rare reference to The Animated Series. The Vedalans were a species introduced in the episode "The Jihad".
Not really. I think he's made peace with it and trying to live his life in accordance to his values and not based on future knowledge.
I’m still hoping that they find some way to flip that storyline. They’ve changed enough other things from the original series to make it another timeline.
That would ruin his character growth if they changed it

More crippled than dying. And he's tried to alter things before and it seems that knowledge is best limited.

Ensign Nurse's name has not yet been spoken on screen yet. According to interviews, the character's name is Dana Gamble, but those same interviews also state the name will not be spoken on screen for another few weeks yet, in what some are speculating will be an episode centered around him.
