2025 Novel Releases

I had hoped that the releases of Revenant and Shadows Have Offended was a sign that we might be getting more Berman era series novels, but those both came back in 2021 with nothing else since, so I guess that's looking unlikely at this point.

There was Pliable Truths released last year. Branded as a TNG novel it tells the story of the Enterprise D's mission to Bajor just before the events of DS9's Emissary.

Oh, I forgot about that one, I guess there's a chance we might still get some occasionally then.

No Saavik this time. It's a very Chekov-centric novel, so I wanted to play up his friendship with Sulu.

So incredibly jazzed about this announcement. Absolutely love that we're getting the "older" Enterprise-A crew again, plus a story set shortly before Sulu's departure for the Excelsior (quick question: Will this novel be consistent with Excelsior: Forged in Fire, and maybe also the second DC Comics run, if this edges closely to those months?).

And yes, I think there's definitely some fascinating character-stuff yet to mined regarding Chekov during this time-period, especially with Sulu eventually promoted and departing the ship for his very own command, leaving his friend behind.

Generally when are cover images released in relation to the publication date?
It varies. Looking over the 2024 thread, it was anywhere between eight months prior to three months prior. While IIRC, the coming SNW novel due out in April by James Swallow had its cover image released almost immediately when the novel was announced something like ten months prior to publication date,

While it's not a novel, I did stumble upon some 2025 David R. George III Trek writing: a 163-page ebook document called Depths of Forever. It is concerned with the landmark episode "The City on the Edge of Forever." It has no reviews so far on Amazon, so if anyone has read it, please share your thoughts.

I've only skimmed the eBook so far, but it looks exciting. I was thrilled to learn that I have an acknowledgement in it.

It is a lost volume of the "Star Trek" episode monograph series, originally intended for release by Obverse Books. Only three of the planned series saw regular publication before the concept was axed.

Why does it vary so much?

Different artists work to different timelines. Some actors have likeness approval.

That was just good timing at play; we had a version of Toward The Night's cover that needed a small alteration (I asked them to add Erica Ortegas, as she plays a large role in the novel) and it was a quick fix that everyone approved, so we went live with it straight away.

I did not know that. Just bought the ebook and haven't looked at it yet.

Editor Paul Simpson's health issues have unfortunately made it impossible for him to continue working on the Obverse Gold Archive line of Star Trek books. He did a fine job as the editor of the official Star Trek magazine a few years back and I have no doubt this would have been a great line of books.

I'm glad there's going to be another Strange New Worlds novel Ring of Fire by David Mack coming out in August. I'm also looking forward to getting James Swallow's book next month.

I tried a quick Google search but other than the title, there doesn't appear to be any details yet about the plot. Intriguing title, though.

Yeah I tried tried to find out more info but that's the only news article on Trek movie is the title and August when the book is supposed to come out.

If I were to guess I'd say they're withholding the blurb for now because it contains information which could be considered a spoiler for the third season. But that's strictly baseless speculation on my part.
