The F**k word in Star Trek

I treat Trek as talking about human behavior. Swearing is a part of human behavior.

Each to their own.
Trek to me is escapism and entertainment. I watch it because I enjoy it. A vision of a better future plus compelling stories and characters. New ideas and ways of thinking. Awe inspiring special effects and orchestral soundtracks.
Having potty mouth characters is basically a bad faux pas and goes against everything I enjoy about the shows.

To each his own.

For me, the Star Trek Franchise's TV Shows/Movies is to be treated as a "historical drama", albeit a "future historical drama"
You use appropriate Future Period Era Costumes, languages, etc.

That's what it means to me.

YMMV.

Hell, some people claim The Expanse is one of the best sci-fi shows of recent years which Star Trek should try to be more like. Then Star Trek has its characters say Fuck just like the characters on The Expanse do and those same people start crying "that doesn't happen on Star Trek!"
I would've liked Voyager to be a bit more like Battlestar Galactica as well, doesn't mean I want Chakotay to be a drunk and Paris to be tormented by an imaginary robot woman in a red dress.

Maybe trek needs a made up swear word? haha

Red Dwarf has Smeg, Mork had shazbot etc :D

But they still use it. It's not taboo to swear but it's not common either.

And I enjoy all that you do. Swearing is not a detriment to me.

To treat it like that and then deny swearing is ignoring aspects of human behavior. How do you create future language?

Why Japanese doesn't need swear words.

You do know there are other languages and other cultures that manage to evolve w/o needing swear words.
Yes, I do know this.

I'm not saying it can't happen. I'm saying it doesn't bother me if it does happen in Trek based upon the historical and cultural influences that show how united Earth, then the Federation and Starfleet would have grown. You would see varying influences including the potential for swear words or other expressions.

Well, my imagination is tha they just don't say "fu**" in the future. Maybe they have other words for it ;)

IMO, the Vulcans would have a heavy influence on StarFleet & Professional-ism in the work place.
They don't seem like the type to mess around & have strict standards of behavior along with what's expected of StarFleet & Government Officials.

And you have other races who value combat and arguing.

Swearing can be effective in communicating intensity of emotion that might benefit interacting with other races.

And even if there is a change to Starfleet that doesn't mean a prohibition type stance on swearing.

True, but even in the future, those who assimilate into StarFleet tone down their Combative-ness & Argumentative-ness to suit StarFleet's image & culture.

It's situational.

Of course, but that's on a personal off-time/private-time basis.
When you're on the clock, representing the UFP / StarFleet, there are Professional Expectations along with behavior & decorum.

They use it to further the Federation and it's causes.

Ok. And if never appropriate to swear for professionals?

Because I must work with unprofessional people in the counseling field.

Wasn't that only used in special situations as a special negotiation tactic?

Pie with a fork.
Or you can use other utensils.

Everybody chooses how to present themselves.
If you find that to be "Professional", who am I to judge you?
I'm a outsider looking into your world.

You have your own standards to operate by.
I have mines.

Profanity in the Work Place is a purely subjective view point.
I choose to work with people who don't use Profanity unless it's in a private personal space.
That's how I like things to operate.
If you don't like it, ::shrugs::, oh well.
That's just what I prefer.

Don't let other people's PoV bother you.
It's ok to disagree on things.

Have you seen TOS?
Not yet. I've seen pretty most content that is TNG & newer.

Also, some of the TOS movies.

I totally agree Newt. In sttvh I got a kick out of how they explained lack of swearing on star trek. It was perfect and set up how the berman era series rarely used foul language. The worst we heard is when Data swore in STG. I feel they are just putting the F word in star trek to say they did it first. Its not a great milestone in my opinon.
