Not enough money for Star Trek SNW, Star Trek Legacy or more Lower Decks - we need to keep Michelle Yeoh happy!
SNW hasn't been cancelled so I'm not sure what the connection is.

S31 was approved for production before Pic Season 3.

Lower Decks ended because it hit 5 seasons, just like DSC.

Legacy isn't happening ATM because Paramount isn't approving any new projects until someone buys the company, at least according to Kurtzman.

PIC Season 3 was way better than the first 2 seasons, IMO.
It has all the same problems people keep complaining about for Discovery and the first two seasons of Picard plus some of the TNG movies. it's dark, grim with end of the universe stakes

The only difference is the Nostalgia.

As well as it being a true follow up to TNG, as opposed to Stewart's keen instinct that PIC shouldn't be a sequel to TNG.

I really enjoyed the scene where they escape the asteroid field because they're all concentrating on their jobs instead of endless babbling, laughing or talking about stupid shit. Now I watch Section 31 for about ten minutes and want to kill myself.

Am I in a very small group that feels that Michelle Yeoh is a very wooden actor with limited range? I don't even factor in an Oscar win, because those have been wrong before (Brendan Fraser over Austin Butler for one, with even some voters later saying they shouldn't have voted for Fraser after all)

What are you talking about? Picard Season 3 might be the first Kurtzman Trek without a universe ending threat. In fact a lot of it felt different, with actual adults in it. Because Kurtzman was busy with his other projects. Just like when Berman and Braga were too focused on Voyager, so we got DS9. Or when they left Enterprise and we got some decent Star Trek for the final season.

Dave Blass was given a gag order not to talk about what he would hypothetically do for a Legacy series, so take that as you will.

I think she would have made a fine Captain, instead of killing her in the first episode and then bringing her back as a sympathetic Space Hitler x 100.

There are more differences to me: a focus on that end of universe problem instead of stopping to talk about some trauma in the middle of it, something that involves more than an episode in a parking lot, etc.

The nostalgia works because of places they need to be (I mean, Starfleet Museum would deal in nothing but nostalgia!) It isn't shoehorned in too much, like Lower Decks sometimes.

What? There was the whole Borg thing in the finale.
Just like when Berman and Braga were too focused on Voyager, so we got DS9.
Fuck sakes, not this again. Braga did not gain authority until Voyager's fifth season, which aired concurrently with DS9's seventh and final season. He was never in a position to influence DS9 at all. Indeed, aside from writing TNG's Birthright Part 1, Braga had no association with DS9 at all.

The scale of threats:

1. Disco s1: Multiverse is destroyed
2. Prodigy s2: Timeline is destroyed
3. Disco s2/Picard s1: All life is destroyed
4. Section 31: 25% of the galaxy is destroyed
5. Picard s2: Galaxy is terrible
6. Picard s3: Federation potentially destroyed.

Picard season 3 was actually pretty tame as far as these things go.

Crews have been making banter, quips and jokes on Star Trek since 1966. This weird revisionism by some fans that crews were supposedly strait laced all serious business on the bridge at all times before Abrams’ first movie is such a fanon thing.

The only thing I would concede is that DISCO and S31 had quips and banter that was cringe worthy like “chaos is my friends with benefits” and “yum yum”.

Indeed, yes. McCoy and Spock straight up insult each other, as does Kirk sometimes.

That's professional? :vulcan:

Wrong. Strange New Worlds hasn't had any of the sort.
Thank fuck for that. One of the show's many strengths.
Kurtzman had just as much influence over Picard Season 3 as he did all the other shows that aren't Discovery.
Around that time he did get a bit sidetracked with The Man Who Fell to Earth, so its a matter of record that he was busier around that time. Both Picard 2+3 were delegated off to Goldsman and Matalas, both safe hands imo.

As I was reminded in another thread, we have Mecha boom-boom now too.

It's cause we all know Matalas was given free reign in Season 3
Yeah, no. That's not how media production works.
that saw him headhunted by the biggest media studio on the planet.
Marvel isn't what it used to be.
The RLM guys are right again
Nope.
Kurtzman Trek needs to go away.
Nope.
It's bad.
Your opinion.
"The Federation couldn't exist without a space genocide orgnisation doing genocide and Roddenberry was naive"
You must hate DS9 and Ira Steven Behr
it tells me his shows are not the Star Trek that should exist.
Says you.
You won't get anymore Lower Decks, they have to spend 100 million on a TV movie.
I don't think it was one or the other.
Hardly. It was the same slop as the first two seasons, but with more familiar faces. People were blinded by nostalgia.
This.
instead of quipping
You must hate The Original Series.

Cept for the whole thing with the Borg assimilating Starfleet and going after Earth..... again.
