Michelle Yeoh Appreciation Thread

Well, I'm not going to tell you not to watch the Guardians of the Galaxy, but if you're going to do it for Michelle Yeoh, the clip I posted above from Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 is literally the entirety of her appearance as that character.
It has more to do with whenever I see descriptions of Section 31 they say it's like a cross between Guardians of the Galaxy and Mission: Impossible. I've seen the first three M:I movies (though from what I understand the ones after those are better) and, over the years, I've seen a pretty good sampling of the TV series from the '60s and '70s, so I feel like I know Mission: Impossible well enough... but Guardians of the Galaxy? Never seen it before in my life. So, when people say it's like GOTG, I have no idea what they're talking about! So, I feel like i have remedy that just so I have a common frame of reference.

Michelle Yeoh was great in Discovery, but I really wish we had spent more time with Captain Georgieu rather than just kill her off. I think that was a missed opportunity. I also liked her in Crazy Rich Asians and she was fine in Everything, Everywhere. My issue with Everything, Everywhere though wasn't her, but more this movie is so weird and confusing that I might consider it really overrated. It really did go over my head.

Michelle Yeah is, has been, and will continue to be, an actor of the highest quality. I have no doubt this will continue to be true in Section 31.

I do have doubts about the quality of the script and plot, however. My expectations are fairly low. My personal feeling on the movies are:

Excellent: TWoK, TVH, TUC, FC
VG: TMP, TSFS, Beyond
OK-Good: GEN, INS, ST09
Oof: TFF, NEM, STID

I think we will likely be in GEN/INS/09 territory with the tone being very ST09. Light, humorous, action-packed, but a lot of empty calories. Satisfying in a way but not all that great, either. JJ Abrams Trek.

Hope I am wrong sbout that. And I certainly will notcwrite the whole thing off because Mirror Georgiou was evil. That does not hurt my Trek fandom at all..
i'm hoping S31 will land in ST09, GEN, INS territory , too. OK to enjoyable

Update: What I thought of Section 31 doesn't effect my journey through Michelle Yeoh's filmography. I'll still finish running through the films I have on my list. I've had a great time watching them!

The only thing that's going to change is I'm not watching the Mission: Impossible movies, Suicide Squad, or Guardians of the Galaxy. No point now.

If I watch any more Mission: Impossible -- why am I say "if"? -- When I watch Mission: Impossible, I'll put on more of the 1966-1973 TV series. I first got into it when it when it was on FX for a little while in the mid-'90s, probably because of the movie, and I watched some more when it was on Netflix and then Paramount+. Nowhere close to all of it, though.

I'm a huge Michelle Yeoh fan since the early 90s when I discovered her in some truly amazing Hong Kong action movies like the aforementioned Yes Madam and its sequel Royal Warriors, but also Police Story 3, Wing Chun or Magnificent Warriors. Unfortunately, in the last years her choices of roles left me a bit baffled. I mean, for every "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "Crazy Rich Asians" there was a "The School Of Good & Evil" or "Witcher: Blood Origin". I liked her in Discovery, though, at least starting with season 2. I hated the whole mirror universe ark in season 1. She was the best element of Section 31 but, of course, couldn't save it from being rather crappy. But people who like her now should check out her early work, she was a tough action woman decades before that became a trend in Hollywood and she was a lot more convincing.
