Starfleet v. Wyck

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I wonder when this happened.

I wonder when this happened.

They really shouldn't have killed his dog.

We can surmise the following:

* Given that Starfleet is the plaintiff, it was probably also a court martial. (Less likely a lawsuit)
* Given that "civil rights lawyers" should definitely be familiar with it, it probably involves an issue of discrimination.
* Evidence was or was alleged to have been obtained illegally, which was probably Wyck's defense in the case.
* The name "Wyck" may indicate a Human, or an alien having taken on/with a Human-(sounding) name.
* Given that it hadn't already been compared to Una's case before it was brought up, it may not have been similar to her case in other ways.
* Given that La'an is familiar with it, it may involve Augments, and/or La'an herself may have been a witness in the case (or perhaps she remembers it from a law course), and/or know those who were involved.

Phew! It's amazing what you can infer from just a little dialogue.

A future screen(writer) who tackles this has/ought to consider everything that was said and make it fit the facts. Interesting exercise, if nothing else.

Well enough known for some to think most civil rights lawyers would know it, but not quite enough known for non-lawyers to be certain they've heard of it. Unless La'an was asking rhetorically.

Which of course says nothing about when Starfleet v Wyck took place. The only thing we know for sure is that it was some time between 2130-ish and 2259. ;)

A lot of aliens have human sounding names: Kira Nerys, Jadzia Dax, Spock, Odo, Chang, Kang, Mara, Quark...
And those are just the ones that are human names. Nearly all alien names on "Star Trek" have a general sound that's similar to Earth languages. Bajoran names usually sound Hebrew or Arabic; Klingon names tend to sound like either Asian or like something from Ancient Norse mythology; Ocampan names sound Latin or Greek; etc.
