Boy, all of this talk makes me more hype than ever for the film. I'm going to have to figure out a way to make some accurate, movie-grade popcorn in order to watch this one. Unless it's some LD type situation where MY specific P+ account doesn't get the thing that's supposed to come out right then and there. Then I'll just be displeased.

It's Trek, so I will watch it, I made it through Discovery so I'll survive this. The reviews have been pretty brutal though, confirming my fears after watching the trailers.

At the moment it's at 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's out of only 18 reviews, which is not many for a movie, but it's more than many TV seasons get. (For context for movies, Avengers: Endgame has 552 reviews, but I'd consider 200-300 normal for a big film. Juror #2, a recent limited release film, has 170 reviews.) I'm sure more will trickle in over time, but I'm not expecting massive amounts.

I believe that's the lowest RT critics rating for any Star Trek project, with the runners-up being The Final Frontier with 23% and Enterprise season 2 with 33% (out of a measly six reviews).

I'm strangely ok with this.
Same. I tend to align with the critics more often, but definitely not always; I've loved a few that were critically trashed. Besides, unless it's 0%, some of the critics still recommended it.

I find knowing a low score in advance can help me avoid setting my expectations too high though, ideally without going to the other extreme of going in expecting to hate it, which I find often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Though, for what it's worth, Jordan Hoffman (former host of Engage: The Official Star Trek Podcast) hated it. TrekCore was pretty harsh too.

Right now I'm hoping for "entertaining fluff", but we'll see how it goes.

I wasn't going to watch it, but now that it predictably sounds like its in the running to be one of the worst things the franchise has produced I'll give it a watch.

Who could ever have seen that coming? Certainly not me. I'll still look back at 2023 fondly.

I appreciated what they were trying to do with season 2 (even if they failed spectacularly), but it really does have that weird COVID era feel.

Ya know, I really enjoyed the first couple episodes of that season....than it fell off a cliff. Similar situation with the first season to be honest. Third season was opposite, I didn't get into it til the final two episodes.

Keep making stuff fans don’t want or are ambivalent about then scratch your balls wondering why your franchise is failing.
