Alex Kurtzman on streaming movies and the future of Trek

Prodigy Season 2 was dropped by Paramount+ and then got out via Netflix, probably with an even wider audience. I think the chances of shelving the show for a tax write off is pretty unlikely, although not impossible given Hollywood accounting.

But it’s interesting that you’ve gone from “it’ll be cancelled before it airs” to “it might get shelved after producing two seasons”.

I don't think a tax write-off is likely in this case. Not impossible, just not likely.

One reason that it happened with WB and Batgirl is that a total reboot was incoming in the form of the DCU. There's no sign of any such activity here.

Not yet, anyway.

There is still a considerable chance that SFA gets axed before the airing of its first episode.

You don’t hire Paul Giamatti for a TV show and then axe the show.

Especially if the S31 outrage sparks further momentum.

The movie has nothing to do with the shows. Seriously, what is with you and your pathological need to trash nuTrek? If you think it sucks so much, don’t watch it.

Does it count as outrage if I strongly disagree with the entire concept of the movie and I won't shut up about it?

I'm no fan of the concept, seems like it is trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy. I also think there will be people out there who enjoy it, and I largely don't want to rain on their parade.

They can be pretty fascinating if you're into documentaries about storytelling or filmmaking... or comedy podcasts about films that suck.

If I'm watching a video that long about something, it's usually either something I've seen already or I never had any intention of watching, because I'm interested in hearing people break things down and explain why they did and didn't work. I don't need to know if Riverdale or Rebel Moon is any good, but I'd could sit for hours listening to people discuss them.

Am I the only one who is willing to give New Trek shows a fair chance by watching it in its entirety before passing any sort of judgement on it?
You're asking that here? It seems like the majority of people on this board had been holding out hope for Section 31 for at least until the trailers appeared, and people are still optimistic about Starfleet Academy.

Personally, I'm not going to pass judgement on a story's content until I've seen it, but if I think something sounds like a bad idea from the start then I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Though I'll probably end up saying things like 'This looks as bad as Borderlands and Rebel Moon' even though I haven't actually seen Borderlands or Rebel Moon*, and I guess that's something I need to put the breaks on when I'm aware that I'm doing it.

*I did watch the 4 hour video about them though.

Why would I watch it in its entirety, before passing judgement on it? Most shows get 15-20 minutes to sink a hook. Trek should be no different.
