Also, maybe this is just the OCD kickin' in  but isn't this like the third different "Freedom class" that Starfleet has had? There's the Franklin (from STB), the one from TNG (the graveyard scene in BOBW) and now this. Starfleet must really like that name!

It wasn’t meant to be a ‘real’ Freedom class, just a Cali-style version of it. Just like how it wasn’t actually a Sovereign class when the Cerritos turned into it.

As for the Franklin, the dialogue trumps whatever barely-discernible display information that was on screen. Scotty calls the Franklin an NX class, so that’s what it is, despite it also being in conflict with the ENT NX class.

Like the Caliranda class. This version of the Miranda had more decks in its saucer than the JJ-Prise!

It's like it's from a timeline where they stole the Klingon's B'rel -> K'Vort style of ship making and just enlarged a Miranda class and put new nacelles on. Quite the beast.

That is such a perfect "Catch Phrase" for Jack Ransom.

"Engage the CORE!"

Maybe, if Lower Decks comes back, there can be some real romance between Jack Ransom & Mariner.

We knew that in the first episode, that there is a little bit of attraction between her & Jack.

Maybe that can become a thing sometime in the future.

Does this make Jack Ransom the most Buff/Fit 'StarFleet Captain' that we've seen to date?

She kind of got the hots for him earlier "So ethical!"

Connecting the stable fissure to AFU would be great

I see lower decks took out the trash. I knew this was my favorite of the nutreks.
*yawn* 🥱

I see that you didn't pay any attention to the story that was actually being told. Just the usual desperate grasping at straws from the usual people desperate for attention and to justify what they oh so desperately want to believe, despite the obvious reality of the situation. Just the usual pathetic nonsense from the usual suspects.

He did?! Where was that in the film?
He doesn't. While it is true that the Franklin is only referred to as "Freedom class" in computer graphics, it is never referred to as NX class. The Franklin's dedication plaque does say Starship class, which raises some issues itself, but this is not the time for this discussion.

What Scotty does say is the Franklin is Starfleet's first Warp Four prototype, which is itself somewhat problematic as registry number is significantly higher than NX-01 meaning Starfleet apparently had Warp Five ships in service before their first Warp Four prototype.

I didn't think so.

I just figured that in the early days of the Federation, ships from before the formation that were incorporated into the Federation fleet were reassigned different registry numbers.

That it was still listed as "NX" could've been explained by it still being used as a testbed for a prototype engine. Yes, in its earliest days, it was the first warp 4 ship. But there's nothing to say it couldn't have later been equipped with faster engines. Indeed, if they were rolling out Warp 7 ships by the formation of the Federation, one can assume some older ships would've been upgraded to fill out the Fleet.

And if the Earth Starfleet had a high attrition rate (likely) during the war with the Romulans you might have a ship numbered 326 pretty quickly. The Horizon from the exact same time period had an NCC-168 registry and that's already getting close to the 200-range. The Franklin was more combat capable given it was so fast and commanded by a former MACO so it's higher number may be an affectation of the war and how many ships Earth and her allies burned through between 2156 and 2160.

Everyone, you tube videos, podcasts, sites like this one, all seem to forget that Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow happened, which on screen explained that the timeline has been altered, and probably before the birth of Khan !! The new next generation just double downs on it. There are three timelines in Star trek that I recognise, and none of them negate, or replace, the others.

Good god, does any of this really matter? Let's just pretend for a moment this episode really did establish Disco as an alternate reality. Does that really change anything? Do you suddenly like or dislike Disco as a result? What has actually changed in your life with the supposed knowledge that Disco is now set in an alternate timeline?

I'm gonna get a lot of use outta this image...

For me personally, if they said that Disco took place in an alternate reality, it would mean my brain would stop throwing up error messages every time something in it contradicts what I already know.

"Those can't be the Klingons, they don't look like that! They shouldn't be using cloaking devices this early! That's not what the Enterprise looks like!" and so on. If it's all resolved then I can relax and enjoy it. I mean, they could also prove it's all Prime Universe and come up with a reason why it all looks different, I'll accept that as well. I just really really can't stand contradictions and retcons, it ruins it for me.

I've been doing that since TOS. Took me years to tell that part of my brain to "Shut up!" And even more years to reduce it to a slight whisper. I'm amazed my brain didn't explode after TMP and decades of bumpy Klingons.
